JUNE 2, 2022
We will celebrate the life of longtime Dayspring member Iny Johnson this Saturday, June 4, at 10:00am. A reception will follow the service in Fellowship Hall or on our patio. The service will be livestreamed HERE and on our Facebook page. View the bulletin HERE.
Our final build date of the season is this Saturday, June 4. We are building a home in South Phoenix on 10th Ave near Buckeye. No previous construction experience is necessary. Please email Mark with questions or to volunteer.
This Sunday is Pentecost. It's also Wear Orange for Gun Violence Awareness Weekend. We encourage you to either wear RED or ORANGE to church this Sunday!

Congratulations to the 2022 confirmation class that will be received at the 10:30 service! There will be a reception following in Fellowship Hall. (The reception to honor Norman Jenson has been postponed until later in the summer. We will let you know once a date has been set.)
A special church conference will be held this Monday, June 6 at 6:30pm. The conference will be on Zoom and is intended to authorize decisions related to the creation of a second campus and elect new Annual Conference delegates and officers. Our District Superintendent, Rev. N. Susan Brims will preside over the meeting and all church members may vote. Click HERE to join the online meeting.
Due to the church conference, the next PRIDE TheoPub has been pushed back a week to June 13 at 6:00pm at Postino’s located at 8749 S Rural Rd., Tempe. Join us for a night of great conversation! Please email David to RSVP or for more details.
Dayspring partners with Borderlands to bring unsold fresh produce from regional farms directly to our neighborhoods. Volunteers are needed to pack food boxes of approximately 70lbs that we sell for $15. This is a great chance to spend time in the Arcadia neighborhood, interact with neighbors, reduce food waste and bring healthy food to local families. Our final event until fall is Saturday, June 18 from 5:00-9:00am. If you’re interested in volunteering, email Amy
We host Family Promise the week of June 26 - July 2. This close to the holiday can be a challenging time to find volunteers, but you are asked to prayerfully consider how you can support this ministry by signing up as an overnight host. We need two hosts each night. You are also invited to provide encouragement by leading fun evening activities and/or helping to provide dinner through the week. Please email Howard or Maria with questions or sign up HERE.
Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, on Sunday, July 10 at 2:00pm. We will meet via Zoom or, if you are not able to participate online, we can meet via phone. If you want to attend the membership orientation on Sunday, July 10, please email the church office to let us know you are interested. If this time doesn’t work for you, please contact the church office for alternate dates or times.
Our monthly Taizé service returns to Fellowship Hall on July 10 and August 14 at 4pm. Taizé brings a time for contemplative worship which involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons - a time for personal connection with God.
SAVE THE DATE! Our Labor Day All-Church Campout is on the books for Sept 2-5 at Hoyer Campground in Greer, Arizona. Registration begins August 1, but you may preregister now (or ask questions) by emailing Carol Muggeridge.
Dayspring will be offering a new Stephen Minister training class in September. If interested, please email stephenministers@dayspring-umc.org for more information.
Scholarship Funding for DACA/Undocumented Students
The Sessions Committee of the Desert Southwest Conference which is the planning body for Annual Conference agreed at the end of last year that our mission project would be DACA/Undocumented scholarship funding. Dollars collected will be used to help students pay for the college education & related expenses through The United Methodist Foundation as funded by the Annual Conference mission offerings.
In 2017 National Justice for Our Neighbors produced a video, sharing words from DACA students about what it means to be able to go to school in the United States. What it means for their futures as these wonderful young people participate in our nation. Funding for education is hard to come by, and we hope that you will give to The Long Journey Scholarship Fund HERE.
We are looking for well-qualified individuals to carry on the ministry of Dayspring in the areas of (1) Children’s Ministry Coordinator (Emily Slater’s position), (2) Organist (Norman Jenson’s position), and (3) Assistant Director, Children and Youth Choirs (the position that was jointly held by Amanda Osman Balzell and Kate Jelen).

If you are interested in any of these positions or would like more information about them, please contact the Staff Parish Relations Committee at sprc@dayspring-umc.org. If you are interested in applying for any of the positions, please include a letter of interest and/or resume stating why you wish to apply and what qualifications you have.
