TOWN BOARD ANNOUNCES NEW PROPOSAL FOR TOWN HALL/COMMUNITY CENTER

Following defeat of the town board’s proposed building plans by voters at the August 30 electors’ meeting, the board approved modified building plans at its October 8, 2018 monthly meeting. Features of the new proposal include:
  • Elimination of both the Red Brick Schoolhouse and the Community Center
  • A new Town Hall/Community Center building totaling 14,000 square feet (defeated plan provided 31,620 square feet)
  • No indoor recreation/exercise facilities other than walking in open areas within the building
  • One large multipurpose meeting room comparable in size the existing Community Center gymnasium
  • New kitchen
  • New bathrooms
  • Town offices with the town board meeting room also available for other public meetings plus two smaller meeting rooms
  • Placement of the new building would not require relocating the adjacent baseball field

The 20-year loan for the project would not exceed $4 million (defeated plan was for a $6.8 million loan). The loan would increase the tax levy approximately $45 per $100,000 of assessed valuation (defeated plan would have increased the tax levy $77 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.

The following events have been scheduled concerning the new building proposal:
  • October 23, 2018, 7:00 PM, Community Center: Public Informational meeting
  • October 25, 2018, 7:00 PM, Community Center: Public Informational meeting
  • October 30, 2018, 7:00 PM, Community Center: Special Elector Meeting to vote on the new proposal 

Additional information will be mailed within the next two weeks to all St. Germain property owners eligible to vote in St. Germain.
