 Meet Your President
|
Dr. Devanand Mangar grew up in Queens, New York, and traveled further upstate to Syracuse to receive his medical degree. He started his general surgery internship at Yale University's Hospital of St. Raphael, but soon found his true calling and decided to pursue an Anesthesiology residency at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He met his wife Michelle in 1987 and completed his residency in 1990. The couple soon decided to move to Florida where Dr. Mangar joined the USF department of Anesthesiology serving Tampa General Hospital.
In 1994 he founded a private group with a handful of physicians to serve TGH's anesthesiology needs. Michelle served as the group's business manager while Dr. Mangar shepherded its rapid growth. The practice now serves over 15 hospitals and surgery centers throughout the larger Tampa Bay Area and beyond. In the midst of those demands, the Mangars have raised two beautiful college aged daughters, Jacqueline and Madeline Mangar.
The many fine physicians who have worked with Dr. Mangar all point to his combination of a seemingly innate medical intuition, his commitment to treat each patient like a family member, and his boundless energy and passion for his patients. The HCMA looks forward to Dr. Mangar's exceptional leadership!

HCMA Membership Directory - Member Advertising Opportunities Available
The HCMA is finalizing preparations to publish the 2014-2015 HCMA Membership Directory. All Active and Life members are listed once by their primary medical specialty, including their office address, phone number, fax number, medical school, and any board certifications. We have limited space available, at discounted rates, for HCMA members to advertise their practice. The Membership Directory is distributed to HCMA members and to all healthcare facilities and hospitals in the Tampa Bay area. The Directory is also available to the public for a nominal fee. This directory is published annually, so your advertisement will be seen for 12 months, at one low price. If you are interested in securing this valuable advertising space, or have any questions, contact Elke Lubin, Executive Assistant, or call the HCMA office (813-253-0471), or click here. Deadline to receive ads is June 30th.
MCMS, Inc., Insurance Trust Fund - Providing Group Major Medical Insurance
Remains a "Tax-Free" Benefit As An Approved Group Plan
The MCMS, Inc., Insurance Trust Fund continues to offer health insurance through Florida Blue. The Trust is available to HCMA members, their families, and their staff. Many coverage options are available, including Qualified/Compatible Health Savings Account Plans. The purpose of the Trust is to keep annual premium increases to a minimum while providing physicians with a great membership benefit. Members who enrolled last year saw NO INCREASE in their 2014 premiums!
The plan offered to HCMA members is better than individual policies!! One of the biggest challenges has been insurance agents claiming offices could drop the group health plan, let the employees purchase individual policies, and reimburse employees WITHOUT taxing employee. The fact is...employers can be hit with fines if they do this! HCMA's program is a "group plan" so the office can deduct the expense AND the employee has no tax liability on premium or benefits paid. For more information, visit: www.trusthcma.com, contact Third Party Administrator: Spencer Barrett, or call local authorized agent Mark Thompson: 727-418-6067. Feel free to also contact Debbie Zorian, HCMA Executive Director, at 813-253-0471 or by clicking here.

Dr. David Lubin addressed a class of approximately 25 students at East Bay High School in Gibsonton on March 3, 2014. He discussed the profession of medicine--its rewards, trials and tribulations. One of the students was hoping to become a neurosurgeon. "It was a bit weird being in high school again with the halls, lockers, students scrambling to class, the bells. I had flashbacks to the '60's."

HCMA General Membership Dinner Meeting
Social Hour: 6:30PM (please note new time)
Dinner & Program: 7:30PM
HCMA members: No charge
Guests: $40 per guest
There are few survival stories more stunning than that of Colleen Alexander, 38, who was training for a triathlon in Connecticut Oct. 8, 2011, when her life changed forever. She was struck by a tractor trailer and run over, her body dragged alongside the massive vehicle. It took 70 blood transfusions from 100 donors to revive her, even though at one point her heart stopped beating.
During the ordeal, she was nearly proclaimed clinically dead twice. Since then, Colleen became an inspirational speaker who tries to connect with her audience through her harrowing experience of injury followed by a miraculous recovery. She credits those who volunteer with groups like the American Red Cross for saving her life. "It's not about me anymore," she said. "It's about this whole army of people behind me that have worked so tirelessly to keep me alive."
