Mohawk-Valley-Spring-24x30-$14,000
Mohawk Valley Spring    24" x 30"    $14,000
O.K., I know - I've been avoiding obvious beauty for a long time. At times even finding it trite and predictable, but this time it dumped my books and took my lunch money - I've been schooled.
The Mohawk Valley took my breath away: expansive, exquisite and boldly delicate all at once.

The vibe was distinctive and ancient.
The wind that moved through the valley carried with it the fragrances of spring and the whispered voices of it's rich past.

While painting this, a rainstorm caused me to retreat to the porch of a old farmhouse where I sat and watched the weather move through the valley. I closed my eyes and breathed it in deeply.
The smell of fresh wind, wet earth and buds unfolding simply finished me.

I highly recommend it.

Rust & Roadsides Trip #5
Canajoharie & Little Falls, NY

Of-Mills-Men-Canajoharie-Creek-30x24
Of Mills & Men - Canajoharie Creek
30" x 24"
This was our fifth Rust & Roadsides trip and the focus was mill towns.
John Cosby and I worked and laughed our way through another adventure.

The beautiful spring weather made it possible for us both to work on larger, more substantial paintings including the one pictured above.

The crucial importance of water in our nations history was all around us; Canajoharie Creek, Erie Canal & Mohawk River. Everywhere - walls and water. Gigantic blocks and mortar to corral and harness the power. Elemental epitaphs to big dreams.

As always we met some wonderful folks who lived, worked and welcomed us into their world.

Best job I ever had.

New York 5-Day Plein Air Workshop
Stone Barns Center, Pocantico Hills, NY

Monday, October 5th - Friday, October 9th

Stone-Barns

I am thrilled to be teaching this workshop. The Stone Barns Center is a great location less than an hour from Manhattan offering plenty of variety and an opportunity to study fall color with the prismatic palette.

Day 1 Will begin with an in-depth lecture on the prismatic palette and be followed by an afternoon Demonstration.

Days 2-5 Students will be working in the field - plan on working on 2 paintings per day. It is my practice to get around for frequent critiques so you will get plenty of help.
