2016 Provincial Teams: Meet the Athletes
The Provincial field hockey season is in full swing as all 8 of our BC teams will be competing at the India Club Tournament from June 24-26. This tournament serves as final competition for the T2C Boys Team, and as a preparation point for the 7 BC teams that will head to U18 and U16 Nationals in July.

We are extremely proud of all of our Team BC athletes and now you can learn more about them on our website:

2016 Club Championships & Festivals
In the first three weeks of June, we held 6 Club Championships and Festivals in conjunction with some of our local clubs. We would like to thank all of the athletes, coaches, managers, parents, umpires, volunteers and technical officials who helped make these tournaments run smoothly! A very special thank you to the Richmond Field Hockey Club for hosting the U13 Girls Club Festival, the Chilliwack Pink Panthers for hosting the U18 Girls Club Championship, the Delta Falcons for hosting the U13 Boys Club Festival, the Victoria Junior Field Hockey Association for hosting the U15 Girls Club Championship and the Vancouver Hawks for hosting the U15 Boys Club Championship. These tournaments would not be possible without the volunteer work that each of these clubs puts into hosting these events.

Congratulations to Derek Leung & Tyler Klenk
Congratulations to Derek Leung on being named to the FIH Promising Umpire List.By being added to this list it means that he is a highly rated umpire who will be given more international appointments and opportunities to develop over the next two years. Derek is also one-step closer to reaching the Grade 1 Level, which means that he could soon be considered for World Cup and Olympic Games appointments. As a long-time umpire in the BC Field Hockey community, we are very proud of Derek and this great accomplishment. We wish him only more success in his umpiring endeavours!

Also, congratulations to umpire Tyler Klenk, who recently completed his first international appointment at the Men's Pan American Junior Championship in Toronto. Tyler is originally from Regina, Saskatchewan but has lived in Victoria for the last few years. In his time in BC he has become an involved umpire in the Victoria leagues and in FHBC programs. Tyler certainly has a bright and promising future in umpiring both locally and internationally. To read more about Tyler and his first international appointment, click here.

Reminder: Umpire Rating Renewal
Attention all Field Hockey BC Umpires! Don't forget to renew your rating before August 31st, 2016. This is applicable to any umpire who has taken a Field Hockey Canada-approved umpiring course with us in 2005 or later, and is either up for renewal  this year or has already expired, and would like to remain active as an umpire. This extended renewal process also includes those who successfully completed a course but did not submit the required field assessments. To find out more about this renewal process, please email Kathryn Pohran ( [email protected] ) to check your eligibility.

Junior Canadian Men Qualify for Junior World Cup!

Congratulations to the Canadian Junior Men's National Team for qualifying for the Junior World Cup being held in Lucknow, India in December. The top two teams from the Men's 2016 Pan American Junior Championships were given berths into the World Cup. Canada managed to secure their spot in the Pan Am final and at the Junior World Cup after a 3-1 victory over Chile in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. Click here for more information from Field Hockey Canada on the team's Semi-Final win.

Canada ended up finishing 2nd at the Pan Am Championships after a 5-0 loss to a very skilled Argentina team.

Canadian Men Finish Tour in Europe

The Canadian Men's National Team just wrapped up a tour to Europe that had them competing against Ireland and Spain, two teams that will also be at the 2016 Olympics. This tour served as one of the last stages of selection and preparation before the team heads to Rio in August. Canada leaves Europe with 3 losses and 1 tie against Ireland, and 1 loss and 2 ties against Spain. Although the scoresheet didn't have the ideal outcome, Canada is still confident about their preparation and their chances in Rio.

The Olympic Team will be named on July 1st and will compete in a test series in Surrey and West Vancouver against Team USA from July 6th-10th.

The four games will be played on June 23rd, 25th, 26th & 28th.
