How Dove Is 'Hacking' Photography to Change the Way Advertising Depicts Women

Mindshare in Denmark have created "Image_Hack," a Dove-branded effort to take the industry on through a common tool - Shutterstock.
"We collaborated with some of the biggest photographers in the industry and took pictures of strong, independent and original women in non-stereotypical settings.  The pictures were uploaded to stock sites and tagged to alter [their] algorithms, giving anyone who searches the site a realistic picture of women in today's society. Then we encouraged agencies and advertisers to use these images to portray women equally in their ads."

The Man Who Revolutionized Colour Photography

American image-maker  Joel Meyerowitz  is one of colour photography's greatest pioneers. Alongside fellow visionaries William Eggleston and Stephen Shore, he fought and succeeded in proving the integrity and artistic value of the medium at a time when it was widely shunned in favour of its revered monochrome predecessor.

AR Menus Are Changing The Way We Order Food

KabaQ  is a free  augmented reality app available for both iOS & Android that creates virtual food displays consisting of multiple digital renderings and actual photographs, a unique method of photogrammetry used exclusively by the organization. By capturing images of the food from various angles, stitching them together to form complete 3D models, and placing them in a new augmented reality menu, food distributors are able to provide patrons, both in-house and online, with detailed digital renditions of available meals they can use preview before selecting.

Apple Embraces VR: Every Virtual Reality Announcement From The WWDC Keynote

At Apple's World Wide Developer Conference, the company made a major shift in their embrace of virtual reality with several new VR announcements during the event's opening keynote.  Though well loved, Apple's computer lineup got somewhat left in the dust at the launch of the  Rift  and Vive, both of which had hardware requirements that  exceeded what Apple had on offer .

The Rokoko Smartsuit Brings Motion Capture to the Masses

Motion capture usually costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is why it's typically relegated to high-profile Hollywood studios and well-established game designers. It requires a suit, tons of cameras, studio space, and technicians to operate it. Rokoko's Smartsuit Pro, on the contrary, puts the entire studio setup into one $2,500 suit. Founder and CEO Rokoko, Jakob Balslev sees it as the start of the democratization of motion capture.

Where are you in the bold new world of virtual and augmented reality ? I don't mean that metaphorically, either: the question of where a user in a virtual world is physically, and how they're interacting with the real world around them, is arguably the key to making the next generation of headsets. It's something not only big names like Google and Apple are working on, but VR/AR specialists like Occipital.
