jun2017randmaa The Randmaas Begin a New Chapter

To Yuri and Connie Randmaa,

The members of Placerville Arts Assoc. want to convey to you how much we will miss your smiling faces and your willingness to always participate and set up our shows. All those years you energetically hung our membership exhibits and the Mother Lode Show. And you always did such a wonderful job!

Connie, we will miss your outstanding award-winning pastels with the brilliant colors, the sparkling lights and rich darks; your subjects always intriguing and thoughtful. You are a role model to many of us.

Connie is not only a member of PAA but also a member of Pastel Society of the West Coast, Pastel Society of America and the founder, former president and Signature member of Sierra Pastel Society.

Yuri and Connie will be moving to Texas to be near their children and grandchildren. We sincerely hope that they will continue to be in contact and that Connie will submit her wonderful paintings to our Mother Lode Show.

jun2017mmgroupNew Mixed Media Group - Join Us!

We will be meeting the first Tuesday of the month in the Craft Room at the Placerville Senior Center, from 9am to noon.  This first Tuesday of each month we will be "piggy backing" on the PAA group that meets there every Tuesday morning, and we thank them for being willing to share their space with us.

So bring a project and work with us, or just stop by to check things out!  Hope to see you on the 6th!

jun2017membershowSpring Member Show Reception

Reports are that our Spring Member Show at the Bank of America Gallery at the Harris Center in Folsom is a really good one!  The perfect chance to view it is at the show Reception Sunday, June 4, 1 to 3 pm at the Gallery.  Hope to see you there!  And thanks to Julia Swain for all the great work she's done pulling this show together.

jun2017mlsMother Lode Show Deadline Looming

We're on the home stretch to the deadline for entering this year's Mother Lode Show.  It's always a great show to participate in, and we hope you will enter.  The deadline is June 18.  Once again, we will be using an on-line entry system.  You can find the particulars  here.  Don't miss this opportunity!

jun2017spsdemoSierra Pastel Society Demo

The Sierra Pastel Society is pleased to feature a wonderful pastel demonstration by Grass Valley artist, Sandy Lindblad, at the next general meeting on Sunday, June 4, beginning at noon.  The program will be held in the El Dorado Hills Senior Center, 900 Lassen Lane, El Dorado Hills.  This exciting talk and pastel demonstration will follow a short general meeting and the public is invited to attend free of charge.

Sandy works in pastels ("Hollywood Smile," above, is an example) and acrylics and occasionally paints out doors in plein air.  She has involved art in her life since childhood, but eight years ago she found that her passion was focused more on animals -- cats, dogs and farm creatures.  Sandy would like people to know that she tries to "catch the feeling of animals and other subjects in art."  Her unique ep[ressionistic style is formed with bold color and strong strokes of paint.

President's Letter

Hope everyone is planning a summer full of art!
It's also a good time to enter some great art shows including our own Mother Lode Show. I'm looking forward to seeing more great art in the show this year.

And another reminder to everyone that at PAA's June 11th meeting, you have an excellent opportunity to receive helpful feedback on your art. I hope many of you will bring a piece or two to the meeting. For a small donation to our Community Outreach Fund, Shirley Hazlett will offer a constructive critique of your work. Shirley has taught art criticism at Sac State and will also tell us about the critique process in general.

It is always fun to see all the beautiful work PAA members are creating. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to have a critique on June 11th.

Hope to see you at the June 11th meeting!

Linda Heath Clark

Meeting was called to order at 1:30 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance and welcoming of guests and new members opened the meeting.

The Spring Members show is scheduled for May 19 through July 9 and will be held at the Harris Center, Folsom Lake College Campus.  Lucia wanted to remind the participants about the proper way to install the hanging wire. There should be no slack in the wire and it should be installed no more than ¼ way down from the top of the framed art piece.  The reception for the show will be Sunday, June 4th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Harris Center.

The Mother Lode Show is scheduled for August 6-20. The online "Smart Entry" is set up and accepting entries now closing on June 18th.  Sylvia is available to help with on line processing of entries if needed. The Juror and Judge will be Dianna Coco Russell this year.

The side room will be used this year for projects. You are all invited to participation by bringing your supplies and joining in on the days lined up as designated. These projects will be on going for the two weeks of the show from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
Monday: Gloria, pastels
Tuesday: Kaaren, mixed media and acrylic
Wednesday: Any medium (open)
Thursday: Pen, Oil

Our Demonstrator for May was Stephany Nickel. Working in a series was the topic. Key points for working in a series were demonstrated and very enlightening for creative thinking ideas in art. These techniques were shown to be able to be applied using any artistic medium. This was a very interesting demonstration. Thank you Stephany. www.stephanynickel.com , email, stephanynickel@gmail,com.

June 11th is our next General Meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm.
Respectfully,
Debra Appleby
