The summer months are traditionally a busy time at Habitat Cape Cod and this summer is no different.
Read on for glimpses into the hard work being done everyday by volunteers at Habitat.
A few weeks ago we raised walls in Marstons Mills on four new homes on Dickinson Drive. It was great seeing the group that has been working behind the scenes with Site Supervisor Barry Clickstein, and seeing them come together with all the new faces that helped with construction and providing food and drinks all day long.
Another special part of the day was seeing Habitat homeowners from other builds and welcoming groups from the Barnstable Police Department, the Centerville, Osterville and Marstons Mills Fire Department and the Cape Cod Base Coast Guard who brought the extra "muscle" needed to get those walls off the ground.

The Family Selection Office Team hard at work reviewing the home buyer applications for the upcoming builds in Dennis.
Two Cape Cod Academy students, Simon and Norbu spent the month of May volunteering on our build sites and in our ReStores. We had a wonderful time with them and encourage more students (over 16) to volunteer with us. The boys made a fun video showing a typical day on the Truro site.

Welcome Beth Wade, Land Acquisitions
Beth Wade is a Chatham native who is proud of her lineage which includes commercial fishermen, lighthouse keepers, and schooner captains. Beth is a graduate of Cape Cod Community College and Emmanuel College. Prior to joining Habitat Cape Cod, Beth was the Executive Director of CHAMP Homes in Hyannis. A passionate advocate of affordable housing and economic development, Beth has taken an active role with a number of local non-profit organizations. She has a special interest in local and sustainable food systems and farming, spurred on by her work with Maine Farms Realty and Maine Farmland Trust. Beth enjoys time with her husband, Tim, grandsons, gardening, beekeeping, the beach, and family vacations at their camp in Maine.
Welcome John Dooley, Falmouth ReStore
We are happy to introduce you to our newest staff member, John Dooley who will be working part-time as a Driver/ReStore Associate in Falmouth. An accomplished marathon runner, John worked for many years at Otis Air Force base and resides with his family in Marstons Mills. We are excited that John is joining our fast growing Habitat/ReStore team!

How blessed we have been, for so many years, to experience the joy, inspiration, wisdom and comfort of our dear friend Rev. Dr. Phil Mitchell. In the words of one long time Habitat volunteer, Dave King (written years ago when Phil was our Spirit of Service Award nominee), "To know him is to love him!! I know I am not alone because his love and warmth is immediately felt by all who know him. During walks and quiet times together, his caring spirit for others is evident in his every word and action. His strong spirit of service to Habitat grows from a remarkable past and outreach to his church and community as well as Habitat."
As a young minister, in 1965, he joined in Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery. As a retired minister, he was cherished by his Federated Church of Orleans congregation, by Habitat Cape Cod, and by many local organizations and individuals for his continued activism, volunteerism, leadership, quiet counsel and friendship. Board member Rev. John Terry who has twice served as pastor of a church where Phil served before him, told us that he has never known a more beloved pastor.
Phil's devotions on our Habitat sites were intentionally inclusive of all listeners, providing inspiration through simple, engaging stories. I know that my interactions with him were not unique. He listened deeply. He praised my good work, and so I was inspired to do better work. He made me feel worthy, and I would then strive to be more worthy. He expressed his care, and so I was more mindful of my care for others. Pastor, chaplain, friend. Our deep sympathy to his family, his congregation, and to all who were touched by his presence. -Vicki Goldsmith

Brewster
The interiors of the homes are being painted and plumbing and electrical contractors are working on final inspections. Appliances are being installed. Please join us at the Dedication of all 5 homes on Tuesday, August 7th at 5pm.
Truro
Homes on lots 1 and 3 have been plastered. Ceilings and walls have been painted in all three homes and flooring begins soon.
Marstons Mills
All exterior walls are in place and trusses have been installed.
Dennis
All three lots have been staked. The septic system is being installed for 98 South Yarmouth Road. Then the hole will be dug for the foundation.
The same work will be done on Janall Drive next. Walls are on track to be raised at both locations in Dennis in the fall.

Falmouth
Our second hearing before the Zoning Board of Appeals has been continued to 6:30 pm July 19, Falmouth Town Hall, 59 Town Hall Square. Please check with our office closer to the date to reconfirm the time of our hearing.

FUN WAYS TO SUPPORT HABITAT

ReStore
We are looking for strong helpers in both ReStore locations, this would be a perfect summer volunteer experience for teens 16 and up, high school and college students are encouraged to join us. They will enjoy short and flexible shifts, make new friends and know that they are helping raise funds to build affordable homes on Cape Cod.
Hook for Homes Party
Volunteer for the BEST PARTY of the summer! We need volunteers for the Hook for Homes Party on Saturday, July 7th for set up and clean up.
If you volunteer to help before or after the party, you get free admission to the festivities and fun.
Cycle Classic
We are also in need of many, many volunteers to help out at our Cycle Classic event in Bourne on Sunday, September 23. All ages and abilities are welcome to help! These shifts are short and flexible too. And we'll feed you!
