Aloha from Kauai and our Great Vacation Retreats Ohana.

There are certain activities that never grow old for long term residents on Kauai. Our lifestyle consists of weekends and sunsets on the beach, surfing and swimming in the sea, taking our keiki to short-board at PKs or longboard at Sheratons, camping and hiking familiar trails and yet always still discovering new places to explore and marvel at. Hanging out with friends for pau hana (after work), eating fresh fish and island grown produce from the local markets... This is what life on Kauai is all about. We are honored to share our experiences with our extended ohana (family) and to encourage our past guests to return to our shores and to entice new visitors to experience first-hand the aloha spirit and all that Kauai has to offer! Everyone should sit on the beach under a coconut tree in Hawaii in their lifetime!
Our Favorite Picks for Summer
There are so many incredible activities and attractions available on the island to keep your vacation adventurous and memorable. Zip-line and ATV tours, sailing excursions, deep-sea fishing, hiking, kayaking, etc. Explore our online Experience Kauai Guide.

Flying over forest canopies strapped to a harness or going down mountain tunnels on an inner-tube with a head-lamp on your helmet, however, may not be for everyone! Here are a few chill activities that require a little less exertion and adrenaline!
Take a ride on the Aloha Spirit
The Poipu Shuttle provides island visitors the experience of Kauai’s “Aloha Spirit” by offering their “Ride Free” shuttle service exclusive for the Poipu area, in an open air, “Aloha Spirit” Trolley. This is a shuttle service provided by Doug exclusively in the beautiful Poipu Area. Call him up at 808-651-9945. Find out more about the Aloha Shuttle schedule.
Sunset at Kiahuna Beach and the Sheraton luau
The Sheraton Aulii Luau is the only oceanfront luau on Kauai and it happens on Monday and Thursday evenings at the far end of Kiahuna Beach fronting the Sheraton.

--- Come, the tiki torches are alight!

It's twilight and the fading tropical sun is bidding welcome to the stars teeming in the Polynesian night-sky, reminding you that you're on an island garden anchored in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Experience new and tempting tastes of Polynesia while you behold the hula dancers of award-winning Urahutia as they bring to life the storied past of old Hawaii. Thrill as the pahu drums throb to the pulse of the surf only yards away as the Aulii's Fire-Knife Dancers take the stage and electrify the night with their whirling torches, as you sip a delicious cocktail and savor the finale and say to yourself, "This is why I came to the Islands."

Picnic at Poipu Beach Park
Poipu Beach Park is a great place to spend the whole day! Pack a picnic lunch or pick up some yummy food from Brenneckes Beach Deli across the street and eat in the shade of one of the many pavilions or palm trees along the beach. Your keiki will love to explore the park playground and swim at keiki beach in the shallow water fronting the lifeguard tower. You can also bodysurf and bodyboard at Brenneckes Beach or snorkel and swim at Poipu Beach. Walk a little further to explore Waiohai Beach and the boardwalk fronting the Marriot Waiohai Beach Resort.

Last weekend we enjoyed our Great Vacation Retreats annual summer picnic at Poipu Beach Park!

Explore Polihale Beach by Video!
This video clip shows Polihale from the water and the one below shows the view of the beach from up on the sand dunes. As Polihale State Park is more difficult to access than most of Kauai's beaches, many visitors do not get to see this westside island gem.
To get there you bump along a rough five mile road that should be driven on with a four-wheel drive vehicle. Most rental car companies prohibit use of their vehicles on this park access road. ** Take heed! Our last two visits to Polihale both resulted in a flat tire from sharp rocks on the gravel road! Still, we love Polihale for its' endless stretches of golden sand and it is a treasured place to camp, however, permits are required for camping. The beach has large sand dunes and the sunsets and views towards Niihau are beautiful. Swimming is safe only at the Queens Pond because of the strong currents and rip currents.
Island Happenings
This weekend Koloa Vaa, our local junior outrigger paddling team, hosted a regatta at Kalapaki Bay. Many of our keiki are enrolled in paddling, Jnr. Lifeguards and other camps during their summer break.

Check out our event calendar to see local island festivals and events. There is a lot happening in July with the annual Independence Day Fireworks and the annual week long festivities to celebrate Koloa Plantation Days.
This doesn't really count, does it?
Here is your monthly news update on the growth of our Great Dane puppy! Horton is very well aware that he is not allowed on the couch, however, we are not sure if this position technically counts as requiring disciplinary measures. He is not exactly "on" the couch as he almost still has three feet fully on the floor! Could this be construed as simply "leaning against" the furniture? What do you think?
Hotel vs Vacation Condo?
Traveling with a family? Hotel Suites are extremely costly and roll-away beds are never comfy! Families need extra bedrooms with large comfortable beds and a living area to spread out and relax without tripping over suitcases and bags. Of course, the use of a fully stocked kitchen and a BBQ area, allows you to explore the farmers markets and to prepare fresh island produce for many of your meals and to relax and savor the moments in your private home away from home. There are so many great restaurants to try out, however, eating out constantly is expensive and exhausting! Many of our vacation condos have a/c, pools and recreational centers. Some of the oceanfront condo master bedrooms have views and proximity to the ocean that you will not find in any of the hotels! Check out Poipu Shores 101A and see if a vacation condo on Kauai will be your next summer accommodation!
