HIMSS Washington Chapter Sponsors the Northwest Patient Safety Conference - May 1
A great day of education and shared stories from a variety of healthcare organizations across the state was held by the Washington Patient Safety Coalition at the 16th Annual Northwest Patient Safety Conference at the Hilton Airport Conference Center.
A highlight of the day was the keynote lecture by Dr. Michelle Melo of Stanford where she presented a powerful story about medical error and the CRP process (Communication and Resolution Process) to work with caregivers, hospitals, and families when a medical error occurs. This new approach in the United States is leading to more collaborative and open process to medical errors.
Presentations by Confluence Health and UW, amongst others, discussed their approaches to Just Culture and patient safety. They noted that they include aspects of healthcare technology issues when they may be a part of the occurrence.
President-Elect Gwen O'Keefe, MD and Treasurer Kelly Nettle, MS RN-BC attended and manned a HIMSS booth where they showcased the ability of physicians and nurses to become free chapter members if their healthcare organization is a HIMSS Organizational Affiliate. A very fun day!
