"State of Parish" Meetings Planned

Over the past months, our Parish Council has been discussing a number of items that will be addressed at parish meetings in August. The main focus of the Parish Council this year has been evangelization, how to deepen the faith of those who are already faithful, and how to reach out to those who have grown tepid in the practice of their faith.

While our local statistics on Catholic practice are more encouraging than national trends, we want to be proactive in our evangelization efforts. At our meetings we will be talking about our own parish growth and sacramental activity.

During this past year, we have also frequently discussed our efforts to form our young people in faith and how parents can be actively involved in these efforts. At our meetings we want to reflect on the importance of passing our faith to the next generation and how we do this through our parish school, our Religious Education program, and our Youth Ministry program.

We would like to report on the many opportunities that our parish offers for spiritual formation through adult education. We will also report on the numerous activities that are sponsored by our Parish Activities Committee and our parish Social Ministries Committee.

Finally, we will be reflecting on the fiscal needs of our parish as we continue to retire our debt, achieve ordinary financial stability, and look to future needs. So many people have worked very hard to establish a vibrant parish in a rather short amount of time. The current state of our parish is a huge accomplishment for which we are grateful. And yet there will always be more to do.

Each week our parish mission statement is printed on the front of our weekend bulletin, briefly stating our purpose and goals. This statement helps us keep our focus as we deal with the day to day activities and interruptions. This statement will also help us focus the agenda of these meetings.

We are providing three different meeting times to accommodate as many schedules as we can and to encourage a high participation rate. Meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, August 15th after the holy day Mass, and Sunday, August 19th at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. I hope these meetings will be a great opportunity to report on the state of our parish and to seek input on what more could be accomplished.

All Parish Rosary & Potluck Picnic

Our Parish Activities Committee will host a Rosary Rally at John & Cindy Dougherty's place on Saturday, June 9th, starting at 6 p.m. EVERYONE is invited! We'll pray the Rosary at 6:30 p.m., then follow with a potluck. Bring a side dish or dessert to share and drinks for your family. The main dish of hot dogs and pulled pork will be provided. There will be activities for the kids, including a bouncy house.
And new this year: Fireworks at dusk, donated by the Fireworkz Store . Oh, and don't forget your lawn chairs!

"For many centuries now, the Rosary has been a staple of Catholic devotional life. It is a very quiet prayer that invites us into meditation on the mysteries of the Incarnation and the life of Jesus and His Blessed Mother. In that way, the Rosary invites us to live in imitation of Jesus and His Mother."
(St. Katharine Drexel Bulletin, 6.4.2017)

Led to Shine: Megan's Story

At 23 years old, I found myself single and expecting. I never thought I would experience something like this and so soon. As a young Christian already struggling to learn so many things about being an adult, I knew I had to get my financial situation in order. I had nowhere to turn and no idea how I was going to pay for a new baby. I had heard about the Sioux Falls Diocese Mother Teresa Endowment Fund, and although I had not considered an abortion, I wanted to talk to them. That was such a great decision! They paid over $3,000 of my medical expenses and gave me two large boxes of baby supplies-clothes, bottles, and more!

On January 25, 1999, Brandon was born happy and healthy. I went through some very hard times as a new mother, but I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit as He whispered the words, "shine on." Those words stayed with me.

Fast forward to 2017. Not long before Brandon graduated from high school in May of that year, I heard about a company called LED Nation . 100% of the company's profits go to charities. When I learned what LED stood for -- Love Every Day -- and the meaning behind it, I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of the faith and love this company displayed. So, I contributed my idea and design for the Led to Shine women's wear with the LED to™ logo . 100% of the profits on the Led to Shine design go to the Mother Teresa Endowment Fund.

And there's a little more to the story. While I was preparing for Brandon's graduation, I ran across my paperwork from the Mother Teresa Endowment Fund. I had saved it for 19 years! That was my "ah-ha" moment. It was clear to me that the Lord planned for me to pay it forward.

Life is so precious. My son has grown into an amazing young man, serving our country and protecting our families in the United States Air Force Fire Protection. How ironic, given the flame in the Led to Shine design, which is surrounded by the words, "This little light of mine"!

"For I know the plans that I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope" - Jeremiah 29:11 NASB

Please consider helping single moms Love Every Day to Shine . Again, 100% of the profits on the Led to Shine design go to the Sioux Falls Diocese Mother Teresa Endowment Fund.

Thank you!
