Edison Warns of the Dangers of Mylar Balloons
Scott Brown considers himself lucky.
The Southern California Edison employee remembers the time he was asked to remove metallic (or mylar) balloons from a set of power lines and things went badly. The balloons, Brown said, caught fire and rained down on him.
Brown's experience highlights the dangers of releasing metallic balloons into the air. But Edison's workers aren't the only ones at risk, said Paul Jeske, Edison's corporate safety director.
