Message From the Executive Director of SBCCOG

We have just the activity for you this Summer! Become a South Bay Environmental Services Center Volunteer. The SBCCOG's South Bay Environmental Services Center is now recruiting volunteers. June 28 will be the Volunteer Training/Recruitment event from 4:30 - 6:00 pm at the South Bay Environmental Services Center, 20285 S. Western Avenue, Suite 100, Torrance, CA 90501. We hope you will consider signing up and also share this information with family, friends, and neighbors. Join in the fun, comradery, and meaningful work of a South Bay Environmental Services Center Volunteer. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work on current issues which promote energy and water conservation through community events in the South Bay. Working in our office is another way to support our work, by providing administrative support and assisting with special projects.  Applications are available at the event or you can fill out a volunteer application online here. RSVP to Martha Segovia 310-371-7222 ext. 209.

Time-Of-Use (TOU) Rate Plans

If you are able to manage your energy habits, one of SCE's Time-Of-Use plans may be the best fit for your home. Rates on a TOU plan are based on the time of day and the season.
TOU plans can help you manage your energy costs. By taking advantage of lower rates during off-peak and super off-peak periods, you can avoid higher weekday rates when energy resources are in demand.

Edison Warns of the Dangers of Mylar Balloons

Scott Brown considers himself lucky.  The Southern California Edison employee remembers the time he was asked to remove metallic (or mylar) balloons from a set of power lines and things went badly. The balloons, Brown said, caught fire and rained down on him.  Brown's experience highlights the dangers of releasing metallic balloons into the air. But Edison's workers aren't the only ones at risk, said Paul Jeske, Edison's corporate safety director.  Edison is  warning its customers  to be particularly careful with such balloons at a time when they are most popular: graduations, Father's Day, and weddings.
