Hello Brewster Day Camp!
It's June 1st and summer is ALMOST here - BDC is ALMOST ready for you! We are working to ready the campus after a long, hard winter. The ocean water is ALMOST warm enough for swimming, the grass is ALMOST totally green, the activities at camp are ALMOST PLAP'ed (Progressive Learning Action Plan -
BDC lingo for 'curriculum'), the staff is ALMOST trained, and the school year is ALMOST complete!
As you can tell, ALMOST is clearly an action word - definitely
not a tentative state of being. ALMOST honestly recognizes where one is in the process, in life, in the
doing of the thing. Sometimes ALMOST can be good enough or even
just right given where you are in the process of learning or doing something for the first time.
When I teach a new skill to someone such as how to surface dive in the deep end of the pool, and they are still struggling to master the skill perfectly, I say, "You ALMOST have it! Now take a bigger breath before you go down so that you have more air to exhale on the way up." In this way, ALMOST is the Kryptonite of perfectionism and the antidote to I can't or I won't.
When we focus on the action of ALMOST, the focus is on striving for growth and not settling for failure. ALMOST signifies a work in progress and not, "oh well, I fell short because I only gave it a little bit of gumption!" ALMOST is honestly acknowledging where you are and allowing room to strive for more - more practice, more time, more questions, more growth - and, well, just more!

Please ensure that we have the latest version of your camper's Physical & Immunization Record on-file prior to the start of camp. This paperwork can be submitted by email, regular mail (to Brewster)
or faxed to our office at 508-896-2044. Thanks!
