    The Monthly Mindfulness Tools for
Well-Being Group

Mindfulness Tools for Well-Being started in March 2018 as a 4-week series. The participants enjoyed it so much that it became a monthly offering. The idea for the group comes from research showing that the variance between people’s happiness levels can be accounted for in many ways, but almost half comes from things we intentionally do. There are a lot of tools, techniques, and practices that we can use to increase our well-being. It is empowering to know that we can have this kind of influence on our well-being and health. 

Each month a group comes together to learn, try out, & discuss new tools. Every meeting includes information on the science & research behind the practices, because the more we know about how the body and mind work, the more we can use that information to our advantage. The tools are drawn from many different areas including Mindfulness, Stress Reduction, Brain Science, and Positive Psychology. The emphasis is on finding ways we can use these tools in everyday life. Topics covered include stress transformation, dealing with challenging emotions, and simple mindfulness practices, to name just a few.

Each session starts with a short Relaxation Meditation that allows you to step back from your daily routine and give you time to just “be in the moment." Ultimately, the goal of this group is to enhance your level-of well-being, really flourish in life, and build a toolbox of techniques to use to help you navigate the life’s up and downs.

Jen Harry studied Psychology at Penn State and has worked in the mental health field in various capacities for over 20 years. This work got her interested in seeking tools, techniques and practices that could help people cope more effectively with challenges and enjoy life more. Jen is certified in the Methods of Japanese Psychology, Applied Positive Psychology, and Resiliency Training.  She is also trained in Mind-Body Techniques to reduce stress. 

The Tools For Well-Being group meets on the 3 rd Friday of each month,10:30 am to 12:00 noon, at the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center. This program is free and open to all. To register please call 664-0339.

Yoga for Cancer
Yoga Teacher Training Workshop

with Susan Sassaman

Ellsworth -- Susan Sassaman, Yoga instructor, who specializes in Yoga for Cancer, will be presenting this workshop for professional yoga teachers on Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center.

In this workshop, participants will experience a Yoga for Cancer class while best practices will be discussed. Yoga for Cancer, a specialized yoga methodology, is tailored to address the specific physical and emotional needs left by cancer and its treatments. This unique approach focuses on how to stimulate the immune system through movement. It improves flexibility, strength, reduces anxiety and boosts overall well-being.

Front Desk Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working at our front desk. The tasks are rewarding and interesting. You will be talking with lots of people by answering the phone and greeting them when they walk through the door.
Other tasks may include helping with paperwork and making phone calls as part of the daily operations of the Center. Computer skills, either basic or advanced, we would be helpful! Call Amy for more information or to sign up, 207-664-0339.

Tuesday and Thursday Yoga Class Changes

Along with the changing seasons, summer brings modifications to the Tuesday and Thursday yoga classes here at the Center. As of July 9, the Tuesday classes will take place from 5:00 - 6:00 pm going forward.

After many years of service and involvement at the Center teaching gentle yoga to many, Naomi Graychase will be passing the teaching of the yoga class to the experienced hands of Mary Cline and Julie Daigle for the summer.

Please join us in saying a huge Thank You! to Naomi for her years of dedication and service here at the Center. We wish her all happiness and success in all of her future endeavours. Namaste!
