We have exciting news to share with you! The Board is pleased to announce that Susan Smith has been appointed as the Centre's Managing Director effective June 3, 2019. Our thanks to Jim Simpson for stepping in as the interim Managing Director for the last four months.
Susan brings a wealth of experience to this role. In her most recent role, s
he was the Chief Operating Officer for Habitat for Humanity Canada, where her responsibilities included overseeing the 55 Habitat Offices across the country, the International Program and the day-to-day operations. She was instrumental in leading several initiatives that left the organization operationally stronger and better able to serve its mission. Susan's career has been intentional and diverse, but the theme has remained constant - lead with empathy, drive change for positive impact and fully engage along the way.
Volunteerism also plays an active role in Susan's life. She was a founding member of the Etobicoke Health Centre, an early volunteer as the Canadian Women's Foundation found its voice in Canada, and while in Ontario, served as a committed volunteer and board member in several networks throughout the United Church of Canada.
Since moving to the Okanagan in late November, 2017, Susan has integrated quickly into her new community. She is an active volunteer with the Penticton and Area Access Centre, and a member of the Arts, Creative and Cultural Innovations Committee for the City of Penticton.
Please join me in welcoming Susan to the Centre
Master Site plan
We are currently engaged in developing a master site plan to guide development of the Centre lands. We have hired a consulting team lead by MODUS Planning Design and Engagement with local architects Landform Architecture. The plan will help guide our decisions for future use of our lands including those we are proposing to sell, highlight projects for improvement, explore potential shared community infrastructure and recommend phasing of development.
As part of the process, MODUS is organizing a two-day design charrette - an intensive participatory planning and design workshop. There are two opportunities for Centre members and supporters to participate. There will be a public session on Thursday, June 27 at 7 pm and a public presentation of ideas Saturday, June 29 from 10 am to noon. Both events will be held at Columbia Hall.
Our AGM will follow the Saturday morning presentation, starting with worship at 1:30 pm and the formal AGM at 2:30 pm.
We hope you will join us to contribute your views as we define and shape the future use of Naramata Centre land.
