Learning Exchange Cooking Classes
Learning Exchange has a popular series of evening cooking classes as part of their customized classes program for adults with disabilities. For the past four years, Paula Oxford has led these classes in making basic meals with fun variations.

From 'Egg'ceptional Egg Bake to Cake Wars to Chicken Sesame Soba Noodles , Paula led learners to try new tastes and take home recipes that they could make with staff, family, or on their own. And now Paula is passing the cooking spatula to Jacob Norsten, who teaches 4th grade at Valley View Elementary School.

While we are sad to see Paula leave, we wish her the best and we look forward to our new cooking adventures with Jacob.

Act Up! Stop Bullying
Bloomington Community Education Youth Enrichment programs partnered with Drama Kids of Hennepin County to offer a series of 2-day after school classes called Act Up! Stop Bullying.

The classes, paid for by a Bloomington Crime Prevention Association grant, used skits, games, and interactive activities to inform students how to handle bullying situations they may encounter.

Focusing on verbal and physical bullying, the students in Kids' SAFARI from Hillcrest, Westwood, and Poplar Bridge interacted with each other and acted out the different roles that can play out in a bullying scenerio, including the role of the bystander.

This 2-day series of classes will continue in the fall at the other Bloomington elementary schools.

Former Metro South Student Graduates from U!
Thao Nguyen attended Metro South Adult Basic Education as a student in the '15-'16 school year before attending Normandale Hills Community College, then transferring to the University of Minnesota and graduating Spring 2019.

Thao tells us that Metro South was the best school for her to learn the skills she needed to take her education further. She really enjoyed her time at Metro South and she especially loved the writing and literature classes. Thao says she worked hard in the Natural Reading class and the volunteers helped her immensely. She continues to practice her English skills and credits Metro South for improving her skills to get ready for college.

Thao would like to thank all the teachers, volunteers, and staff at Metro South....you have helped make her who she is today!
