Join fellow Lakers for the Sault Ste. Marie 4th of July Parade!
We're ready to set sail on the SS Laker for the 4th of July 
Parade and we're looking for shipmates!  This is a great opportunity to connect with the local community and to have some fun with your fellow Lakers.   The  parade  begins at 7 p.m. Line up starts at 6 p.m. behind the old K-Mart on Davitt Street. The  parade  will end on Portage near Magazine Street.  If you would like to join the crew, contact  Sharmay Wood As always, alumni, family and friends are more than welcome to  join  us! Wear your Laker gear along with some red, white, and blue as we celebrate Independence Day!

Lake Superior State University was recognized for its contributions to the local community at the United Way of the EUP Community Builder Awards Celebration recently. Lake State was honored as part of the Merit category, bestowed upon workplaces which raised between $4,000 and $5,999 for the United Way of EUP's annual fundraising campaign. 


Steven Betz

LSSU Welcomes new Government Relations officer
Steven V. Betz will be LSSU's Government Relations Officer effective July 1. Betz will report to LSSU President Rodney Hanley and will serve as a member of the President's senior management team.

LSSU Superior Edventures Summer Camps offer a 10% Alumni Discount! All students whose parents are alumni receive 10% off camp registration. Check out all 2019 Summer Camps available for grades 2 - 6 and 9 - 12 on campus. Email Lauren Paitson, Youth Camp Coordinator, to obtain your Alumni discount.

Work for your Alma Mater!
LSSU has non-faculty positions open in athletics, the library, marketing, campus life, facilities and in several academic departments. Faculty positions are available in education, history, natural resources, math & computer sciences, Kinesiology, fire science, criminal justice, biology, English, business, nursing and engineering. Support staff positions are open in facilities and admissions. And there are a couple part-time positions open as well. 
ALUMNI SUCCESS STORIES
Bud Denker and Rother Mathes meet the President 

Recently two LSSU alumni had the opportunity to meet President Trump when a Penske car won the Indianapolis 500 auto race. Bud Denker '80, is president of Penske Corporation, and Roger Mathes '09 is the chief engineer for the race car. Bud received the Kenneth J. Shouldice Professional Achievement Award from the LSSU Alumni Association in 2008, and he also is a recipient of the Lukenda School of Business Outstanding Alumnus award. Roger is a trackside engineer with
Ilmor Engineering, which works alongside Chevrolet in the IndyCar series.  His role is to support the #22 car of Team Penske with anything related to the engine, including hardware and software calibrations.  Roger is present at all races and track tests, and in the pit stand during track activity. Also in the photo are
race car driver Simon Pagenaud and his fiancée Hailey McDermott. In the third photo Mathes is
pictured with Penske owner Roger Penske and driver Simon Pagenaud with the winning car following the race.
 










Esther (Morgan) Proulx '05Sault Ste. Marie, was recognized by the  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Detroit District as employee of the quarter. The release said that Esther has developed strong competence in utilizing acquisition systems and her efforts directly contributed to the success of Winter Work execution at the Soo area office. Esther has received complements from across the facility for her work ethic and personable nature with coworkers, showing great potential and dedication to the mission. Prior to working for the Corps, Esther was the development coordinator for the LSSU Alumni and Foundation offices. 

Student Kudos
Governor appoints LSSU student to state Commission
Theresa M. Thompson of Dafter has been appointed to the Commission on Community Action and Economic Opportunity by Governor Whitmer. Theresa is a sales associate for Bath and Body Works and a student at Lake Superior State University. She was appointed to represent low-income persons for a term commencing June 22, 2019 and expiring June 21, 2022.

July 23 - Glen Miller Band to Perform at LSSU Arts Center. 
The Arts Center presents the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing big band and swing hits with a unique jazz sound on   
             July 23 at 7:00 pm. Veterans and members of the armed services 
             are eligible for a special $10 ticket.

August 4 - Bud Cooper Memorial Golf Classic, Sault Ste. 
Marie Country Club, 9:00am. Sign up to play or sponsor a hole!

August 26 - Welcome Back ice cream social for students and staff




September 5 - Lake State After Hours, Alumni House Lawn


October 11-12 - Great Lake State Weekend, LSSU Campus



October 18-19 - Laker hockey vs. U. of Michigan in Ann Arbor
October 25-26 -  Laker hockey vs. Notre Dame in South Bend



LAKER ATHLETICS
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced that 36 Laker athletes have been named to the Spring 2019 GLIAC All-Academic and All-Academic Excellence teams. 


LSSU Athletics announced that the cumulative weighted grade point average for all student-athletes for the 2018-19 academic year is 3.155. This is improved from last year's 3.112 and continues the gradual improvement of recent years.  Click here  to see which athletes earned a perfect 4.0.



Enrollment is open for summer sports camps in basketball, golf, hockey and volleyball.
