August 2019 Newsletter
The summer's been busy, but we're not done yet!

  • In July, we attended ZDM12, and while we were in the area, we also stopped by the Society for Developmental Biology 78th Annual Meeting.
  • We started school early this year at the Zebrafish Development and Genetics course at MBL and the Health and Colony Management of Laboratory Fish short course at MDIBL.
  • And we demonstrated our eRack and helped attendees make an informed decision about their facility equipment at the Hands-on Workshop for Building Working Groups of CRISPR-Cas9 Undergraduate Educators at University of Minnesota.

Conferences coming up:
RecapsMBL and MDIBL

Paul Tabour, Aquaneering Northeast Sales and Tech Support Representative, attended the Zebrafish Development and Genetics course at Marine Biological Laboratory, where he demonstrated a stand alone rack system to a scientist audience. After touring the MBL facility, he fielded questions and discussed our equipment one-on-one with other participants. "[It was] a lovely summer day," Paul says, "and a good experience overall."

MDIBL
Lobster Boil at the Bay

Paul also attended the Health and Colony Management of Laboratory Fish short course at Mount Desert Institute Biological Laboratory, which focused on veterinarian-level concerns such as disease prevention and pathology/autopsy. The presentations were very informative and interactive as presenters engaged vendor representatives to discuss how their systems addressed functionality and lab issues. Paul was pleased to be able to answer a lot of good questions, as well as contribute to the course discussions, notably on water quality. Later in the week, course attendees enjoyed a lobster boil by the bay.  All in all, Paul says, "[ MDIBL]  was a really good week."

California's Kern River Hatchery back in action following renovations

The Kern River Hatchery in California recently reopened following three years of extensive renovations. The updates will allow the nearly 100-year old facility to improve operations and capabilities into the future, including raising and planting Kern River Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus  mykiss).

Aquaneering supplied the Hatchery with a complete filtration system and three of our 2000-liter polyethylene round tanks.  It is with pride that our equipment supports the improved and updated operation of the Hatchery.
