National accreditation was awarded to the DEC on May 4 from the Commission on Accreditation in Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) during the conference in Huntsville, Alabama. The years-long process resulted in the first award of accreditation. The department will now move into the four-year accreditation cycle. Less than 2 percent of all Emergency Communications Centers in the United States are accredited by CALEA.
Emergency Communications Manager Kathy Berg, who was instrumental in our department's accreditation, received a CALEA Certificate of Appreciation award for all of her hard work.
