DEC earns its first CALEA accreditation

National accreditation was awarded to the DEC on May 4 from the Commission on Accreditation in Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) during the conference in Huntsville, Alabama. The years-long process resulted in the first award of accreditation. The department will now move into the four-year accreditation cycle. Less than 2 percent of all Emergency Communications Centers in the United States are accredited by CALEA. Emergency Communications Manager Kathy Berg, who was instrumental in our department's accreditation, received a CALEA Certificate of Appreciation award for all of her hard work. Ribbon-cutting, Open House officially opens Training Center

Under construction and furnishing since September 2017, the Training Center officially opened on May 30. Mayor Levar Stoney, CAO Selena Cuffee-Glenn, Councilwoman Reva Trammell and about 60 visitors toured the new and existing building and enjoyed cupcakes. About 19 extra printed commemorative programs are available for those who would like one. Commemorative Program

May's #I am Richmond 911 honoree is Leon Corbin Congratulations to Leon Corbin, May's honoree for #IamRichmond911. DEC Communicator Challenge

Last month's trivia winner Congratulations to Wadiya Pearson , who correctly answered 11 for the number of news releases issued by DEC from 1/7/2018 to 4/22/2019. The answer could be found on the DEC website . Wadiya's entry was chosen at random from all valid entries, and she won her choice of either a wireless charging pad or a power bank as a prize.
