June 2020 Newsletter
A NOTE FROM OUR CEO
MICHAEL TUCKER

Challenging times produces opportunities for all to step up and work together for the good of everyone. This has been true for WV Central and our members over the last couple months. The community came to together to support our local businesses as we created a financial impact of $75,000.00! We are now getting ready to support our schools, teachers and students with our Stuff th e Bus (COVIDEdition) . Please see information in this newsletter for details.

During the month of May, members purchased and refinanced auto loans as well as purchased or refinanced mortgages at a level that produced a record loan month! During the month, our number of members as well as borrowers increased significantly. Thank you for your support of the credit union and for helping us support the local community.

Since mid-March we have had our lobbies closed. At this time, we do not have a date set as to when they will re-open. The potential restrictions on the number of members in our lobbies as well as assuring the safety of all members and staff will keep the doors closed for right now. We will announce the dates and plans as soon as we can.

We will be returning to what I believe will be an “improved normal” soon as we allow our faith to override our fear.

We continue to encourage members to use all of our on-line services to meet your financial needs. Information on each can be accessed by going to  www.wvccu.org  . We recommend using the on-line loan applications for your borrowing needs. The process is extremely easy and efficient. We will be using this process more and more going forward.

Thank you for your loyalty and support! Please encourage anyone that you know to become a member of WV Central and help us all to work together for a better Mid-Ohio Valley.
On April 29th - we held the GIVE LOVE Challenge and matched $25,000 in gift cards to help support local businesses during COVID-19 - and pledged to donate another $25,000 to local area food banks to fight food insecurity. We have sent the matching funds to the food banks listed above. If you are struggling with food insecurity -
don't hesitate to call 2-1-1 to get connected with resources near you.
West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union and Commonwealth Financial Services are proud to support area educators through Stuff the Bus. Historically, we have engaged sponsors and worked with the community to collect and distribute bags of school supplies to our area teachers - but due to COVID-19 we are planning on taking a different approach. In 2020, we will be making cash donations to teachers to use for their classroom supplies. We plan to mail checks to teachers in early August. This approach will allow teachers to get specifically what they need and cut down on contact during this time of social distancing.

We don't know what the school year 2020-2021 will hold just yet, but we want to have the backs of area educators no matter what the coming school year brings.

We invite the community to partner with us - and we will match donations up to $5000 to help meet the huge response we have already seen. We currently have 585 teachers signed up from our six county area and more signing up everyday! Click below to learn more or donate.
