A Message from Our Executive Director

Dear Friends:

Over the past six months, our staff and our board took on the long overdue task of developing a new three year strategic plan for CILO. Despite the challenge of not being able to work face to face for some of the project, we were able to complete what I trust is an excellent forward-thinking plan to take us into 2023.

To define what we ultimately want to achieve and to give purpose to the existence of our organization, we developed our new vision statement:

CILO is a recognized leader of quality and innovative services that promote independent living for people with disabilities.

How do we intend to accomplish this? This new plan based on valuable input from all of our stakeholders embraces six organizational values that in turn are the foundation for our five strategic goals. Developed with a holistic approach, we are confident that each of our goals is measurable and attainable.

While some of the goals are more challenging than others, each of the five goals are the key steps we must take to get us to where we desire to be by 2023. The work that lies ahead has been mapped out in a detailed Action Plan; each of the Goals and Objectives will be measured on a quarterly basis by our staff and board. This strategic plan will become effective July 1, 2020 at the start of our new fiscal year; I look forward to having the opportunity to report back to you on our progress.

See the full Three Year Strategic Plan here.

My thanks to everyone for all of your efforts to bring this project to fruition, and may we go from strength to strength. As always, I want to hear from you. Please contact me at 513-241-2600 (extension 211) or by email.

Regards,

Rob Festenstein

P.S. I once again have a $10 gift card to Starbucks to the first person to contact me by email indicating you have read my message.

One-on-One Virtual Instruction for Youth!

We are excited to bring Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) in self-advocacy and workplace readiness training to students ages fourteen through twenty-two with the help of Zoom! Each session typically lasts thirty minutes once per week, but scheduling is VERY flexible in order to meet the student's needs. The first session is a meet-n-greet followed by outlined sessions catered to the student's learning style. Students will be provided a step-by-step lesson plan ahead of time, and parents will be emailed notes after each session. There are two ways interested families can get authorized to receive Pre-ETS. They can contact Jeanne Menke, Youth Transition Services Specialist, by phone 513.241.2600 ext. 200 and email Jeanne.   OR, if the student has an Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) Counselor, families can contact their counselor to get the process rolling. We look forward to seeing you on Zoom!!!

Americans with Disabilities Act Event Update:

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put many large events on hold. We still want to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in Cincinnati, but our committee decided an in-person gathering was not safe at this time.

We will not be holding the July 24 Disability Pride Walk and Celebration at Washington Park. Instead, we will celebrate virtually throughout the month of July. More information to come!

Employee Anniversaries

Congratulations to Lisa Beane, Kentucky Housing Program Coordinator, and Anthony Jenkins, Gallery Assistant, both celebrating 6 years at CILO.
