Uplift Center for Grieving Children is committed to helping families grieving the death of a loved one heal and cope, helping to make the difficult somehow bearable and giving hope to the future.

Today, we need that more than ever. This past week has once again highlighted the historical and present day difficult truths about our society. The wounds of racism continue to fester in every part of our lives including the institutions upon which we rely – health, education, criminal justice, and many more.

Over the years, Uplift has often kept its messaging limited to grief. But today, we cannot talk about grief without addressing the lives of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the countless others whose lives have been cut short by racism, as well as the feelings of fear and trauma-driven reactions those deaths instill in the Black community and communities at large.

As an organization, we are committed to speaking this truth and examining our own policies and practices as well as those of our partners and systems with which we interact. We will continue to fight for equality as we stand alongside children and families in Philadelphia grieving loved ones and dealing with the compounded trauma of daily racism. We hope that you will join us as we work to create dialogue and coalition building to work towards longer term solutions.

Thank you for your support.
