There are no words to describe this loss. To express all that Lisa meant to us and how much all of you and her work meant to her is impossible.
Simply, we are all better for having known Lisa Hannegan, and we all shine brighter having been honored by the gift of her love and care.
We send peace and love to Lisa’s family, friends, and to all of you.

Mary Jane "MJ" Paras, Pediatric CRNA presented at the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) in February. The SPA advances the safety and quality of anesthesia care, perioperative care, and pain management in children by educating clinicians, supporting research, and fostering collaboration among clinicians, patient families, and professional organizations worldwide.

Mary Jane presented the following Topic and Objectives:

Surgical Missions in Low to Middle Income Countries and COVID-19: Shifting Gears

Upon completion of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
* Discuss the impact of humanitarian surgical missions in low to middle income countries
* Discuss the implications of COVID-19 on safe access to surgical and anesthesia care in low to middle income countries (LMICs)
* Identify strategies mission organizations can employ to mitigate the burden of COVID-19 in LMICs.

Additionally, MJ presented at the recent BCH APP Committee Meeting. The title of her talk was "Beyond the Blue Drapes: A Pediatric Anesthesia Primer".
Kristopher Jackson MSN, AGACNP-BC has an  editorial in this months’ American Journal of Nursing about his time in The Bronx last year working as a volunteer APP.
"I stood in a somber, windowless space that—under normal circumstances—would serve as the hospital's postanesthesia care unit. Comprising a dozen or so little compartments, this area is normally meant to house patients briefly in the hours following surgery. But on this spring day in the Bronx, none of the 15-plus patients in this space were recovering from surgery . . ." Furthermore, Kristopher along with  fellow UCSF NP colleague, Starr Tomlinson, published A review of top performing rural community and critical access hospitals' web resources for transgender patients in the United States.

Abstract Objective : This cross-sectional study examined the prevalence of "LGBT" and "transgender" terminology and type of resources available to transgender patients on the websites of top performing rural/community hospitals and critical access hospitals in the U.S. The effect of hospital control (e.g. type of operating parent organization) on the presence of transgender resources on these websites was also evaluated.

Managing Political Stress in 2021
How to maintain balance and use media wisely
We are all experiencing political stress, particularly in the wake of the January 6, 2020 U.S. Capitol attack. An American Psychological Association survey showed that 70% of adults experienced high levels of stress leading up to the 2020 election, and that stress may unfortunately last for some time to come. This is a time to plan ahead and keep calm. Since the news is one of the major ways that political stress can "get under the skin," we need to prevent harm from overconsumption of news.
You might be wondering how you can work when you feel so distracted or anxious. With so much happening right now with the pandemic and politics, it is sometimes hard to focus. There is a high risk of greater numbers of people falling into depression and anxiety. It is important to plan ahead now — set up your days to be balanced and build in some stress reduction. Here are some tips for managing news overload and getting through these challenging times.
