SEEING AND BELIEVING SURVIVORS DURING PRIDE MONTH AND BEYOND

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and we are excited to partner with GlendaleOut to share how we are creating safe and affirming spaces for all community members seeking safety, support, and empowerment programming. We'll be raising awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence in LGBTQIA+ communities and sharing more about what services we offer to support all survivors. CITY OF GLENDALE MOVES TO ESTABLISH TENANT-LANDLORD ADVISORY BODY

The YWCA thanks the City of Glendale for taking another step in its path toward a more just and equitable Glendale by establishing a Tenant-Landlord Advisory Body. As a former Sundown Town, people of color were explicitly prohibited and expressly discouraged from owning or renting property in Glendale until the passage of the Fair Housing Rights Act in 1968. Today, Glendale maintains one of the highest per capita percentage of renters in the United States: 67%. The Coalition for an Anti-Racist Glendale in partnership with YWCA submitted a proposal to establish a Tenant Landlord Advisory Committee to foster equity, advance anti-racism, and promote safety in addressing the housing needs of our renter majority community and to also support landlords in understanding how they can prevent housing discrimination. On June 15th, the City motioned to move forward in establishing this body. We look forward to working with staff as a resource as they establish the charter and structure of this important body.
