Donor Connection: Investing Time in Students

The David Povlitz and Terry Mollica Aspiring Entrepreneur Scholarship was established by Anago Cleaning Systems to help inspire young people to be entrepreneurs. This year’s recipient, Cameran Hollis (Business Administration Management ’24), had the opportunity to meet with Anago scholarship founder, David Povlitz.

Tiffany Sizemore, D.O., FACC, FACOI (’09) and William Kirsh, D.O., M.P.H. (’85) were appointed to the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine by Governor Ron DeSantis. Both are alumni from the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Rachel Edrich Receives 2021 Ashley Kaye Hess Scholarship

Graduate student Rachel Edrich was awarded the 2021 Make the Most of the Dash and Ashley Kaye Hess Changing Lives Scholarship. The scholarship was named after Ashley Kaye Hess – a cheerleader, dancer, teacher and NSU speech-language pathology master’s candidate – who was killed in a tragic car accident on May 14, 2016.

Alumnae Projects Put Marine Bacteria Under the Microscope

Two new NSU publications were included in the scientific journal Frontiers of Marine Science and Frontiers of Microbiology.
The papers were written by two HCAS alumni: Rachael Storo (formerly Karns) and Alexis Berger. The papers focus on their master’s theses and are published in peer reviewed journals with the guidance of their mentor, HCAS biology Professor Jose (Joe) Lopez, Ph.D.

Class Of 2021 Alumna Spotlight: Raquel Muniz

As a deaf student, who also cared for her aging maternal aunt and is a mother of four wonderful children, Raquel has faced unique challenges during her journey at NSU. However, through faith and perseverance, Raquel proudly earned her Doctorate of Education from the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice.

NSU Art Museum Holds Special Juneteenth Event
Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 3 p.m.

In recognition of Juneteenth, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will present “Looking Forward, Looking Back: Freedom, Afrofuturism and Reflections on Juneteenth,” a free virtual panel discussion on Saturday, June 19 at 3 p.m.

Forbes Magazine published an article on an amazing international collaboration where, for the first time, researchers have been able to record in near real-time the migration of a pregnant scalloped hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini).
