Join us for a “lunch time” Zoom Meeting to discuss the practical, clinical, ethical, & emotional factors related to Tele Mental Health vs. returning to in-person sessions in our offices. When is it time to re-open? What is right for you? What do you need to move forward successfully and transition comfortably?

Advocating Through Adversity: Celebrating Success in these Challenging Times

June 22, 2021 9:15AM ET - 11:30 AM ET

Join the Coalition for Elder Justice in Connecticut as we offer a virtual symposium designed to educate and engage on recent and emerging elder justice issues. This year’s event will focus on aging as a time for exploration and opportunity that comes with the challenges that may happen at any age and at any stage of life. Our keynote will be Erwin J. Tan MD who is the Director of Thought Leadership- Health at AARP where he works on healthy longevity and health equity. He is a physician with fellowship training in geriatric medicine and integrative medicine. Dr. Erwin previously served as the Director of Senior Corps at the Corporation for National and Community Service and as faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Erwin was a White House Fellow serving as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.

The program will also feature a presentation of case vignettes from members of the coalition, with an opportunity to offer both challenges and solutions from an interprofessional perspective. Our goal is to provide a better understanding and awareness supporting all professions and advocates working on elder justice issues. Let’s support each other in these challenging times! Certificates of Attendance and professional credits are available for consideration to those who attend this event. Law Enforcement training hours pending approval.

Providing Support for Clients and Families
with Immigration Concerns

June 29, 2021
9:30 to 11:30
via ZOOM
Everything you needed to know about immigration terminology and the various documentation statuses of the immigration population. The training will provide advocacy tools and education around the risks of this population being caught by Immigration, possible paths to obtain status, and current administration changes that impact this vulnerable population. The presenter will explore how status affects individuals and families and how lawful status may be obtained through the application process. What are the benefits and challenges of the various statuses and what is the impact of current policies on children and their families? How can we as social workers best support immigrants with concerns for their safety and their families?

Attorney Meghann E. LaFountain of LaFountain Immigration Law, LLC in Middletown will be our presenter for this timely and valuable workshop. A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, she started on this journey as a Law Student Representative at the Asylum & Human Rights Clinic in Hartford in 2010. She worked for Immigration law firms until starting her own firm in 2017 where she focuses on low bono/discounted legal services to clients. Attorney LaFountain brings a holistic approach to legal representation, helping clients connect with other resources in the community for things such as medical care, food and clothing, and mental health care. She serves as Chair of the CT American Immigration Lawyers Association of CT, Treasurer of the Middlesex County Bar Association, and was the former Chair of the Women’s Initiative of the Middlesex County United Way.
