A Message from our Senior Pastor, Dr. Rodney Navey
As I enter the 4th month of being the Senior Pastor at Lawndale, I hope you’ve already heard my heart about the direction I’m leading Lawndale toward. I’m prayerfully leading us to be a biblical and intergenerational church. I’m convinced the way we do this and the way we most effectively serve God together is by:

1) Biblical Worship
2) Intergenerational Ministry
3) Discipleship Culture
4) Family Equipping
5) Leadership Development

Pray God will bring the man of His choosing to help us in our music and worship ministry. Pray for great and sacrificial love between the older and younger generations, that the older, more mature, will gladly sacrifice for the younger, and that the younger will gladly learn from the older. May the world see what a united church looks like!
Pray also for Family Equipping. Moms and dads need God’s help, each other’s help, and the help of the church. I’m very thankful to present a Next Generations Team led by Pastor Kevin Weisman that will help us partner with parents in the great ministry they have been called to do: make disciples at home. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).

  • Director of College Ministries Luke Earwood
  • Assistant Pastor of Student Ministries Zach McCraw
  • Assistant Pastor of Children’s & Family Ministries Kyle Earwood
  • Director of Next Generations Girls’ Ministries Cassie Taylor

Since two of these are pastoral roles, you will be asked to approve Zach and Kyle by a churchwide vote on June 13 by ballot. You will also have an opportunity to meet and interact with them on June 6 from 3:45pm-4:45pm in the Christian Life Center. These two men and their wives have met with the Personnel Committee and the Pastors as part of the process and come to you with unanimous support.

This team, I believe, will allow us to focus even more on equipping families and partnering with families in the discipleship of the Next Generation! Pray the gospel is faithfully passed down to the next generation. (Judges 2:10).

NEXT GENERATIONS
PRAY FOR ME CAMPAIGN
Pray for Me Campaign—Lawndale members and families, we are presenting the church with a challenge. Would you pray for one student? The concept of Pray for Me is to invite three (3) adult believers from three (3) generations to serve as each student’s prayer champion and to commit to praying for them for one entire school year. Over the next couple of months, our goal will be to call adults from every generation to pray for the next generation. So no matter your age and what else you have happening in your life right now, we are asking you to agree to pray for one student by name - that's it! We need you!

The Pray for Me Campaign’s launch night will be on Sunday, August 29 from 5-6pm in the Worship Center and CLC. Signups are coming soon—be on the lookout!

Register now online and in the main lobby at the VBS display or church office. Some age classes may be limited.

Important Information related to VBS Registration: Lifeway’s Kid Event Pro is our registration program, and we have encountered major problems with it this year. If you are uncertain your online VBS registration was accepted, please check with Wanda (wdgriffin@lawndalebaptist.org).

VBS Leadership Luncheon—Sunday, June 6 at 12pm in the CLC. Register with Wanda at wdgriffin@lawndalebaptist.org.

Find a place of Service in VBS—Complete a volunteer form at the lobby VBS display. Assistants are needed in several areas. Our VBS requires about 200 volunteers.

Contribute Money to Energize our VBS Staff—Our VBS Leadership loves the break room! In the past, everyone enjoyed the homemade goodies you graciously provided. This year we are going with simplified, single packed item offerings for safety reasons. We will purchase the items. Monetary contributions are welcome with a check written to LBC and designated “VBS” in the memo. Cash donations are also welcome in an envelope, notated “VBS.”

Special Needs—We have a wonderful ministry to Special Needs children during the 10:30am worship hour. Many on our team have served in this ministry for years. Volunteers serve one Sunday a month, except when a 5th Sunday rotation occurs. New people are paired with experienced people. Share your interest with Arvil Pennington at apennington@lawndalebaptist.org, or Carrie Nicholson, our Special Needs Director, at nicholsonfam@gmail.com.

COLLEGE
A message from our new College Director, Luke Earwood:

I am so excited to start in this role as Lawndale’s new College Director and to see what God will do to reach not only the students who grew up at Lawndale but also those who are new to the area and either are attending school locally or have instead chosen a career path. Pray with me as we seek how God will use the ministry at Lawndale to help college students become men and women of God and to best serve the church. I look forward to seeing how our faithful Savior will continue to grow His kingdom through Lawndale College.

Senior Adults
The big news in Senior Adult Ministry is the return of our monthly Prime Time Luncheons. Our June meal and program will be Thursday the 17th in the CLC at Noon. The meal will be baked chicken and fixings, catered by Oakcrest Restaurant. The cost is only $5 per person, subsidized by our Senior Adult Ministry. The program for the day is PHOTOFUN with everyone sharing a photograph and story around the table. We’ll also update our 2018 Senior Adult directory by taking a simple photo of those not in the directory. SO – choose a photo with a fun story to share with friends at the table and make your reservation soon by calling the church office (336.288.3824). Happy June everybody!

A message from Jimmy—If you have been at Lawndale Baptist Church for very long, then you have either come to know Baron Edwards or you know about him. Baron has faithfully served the Activities Ministry for the last five years as Activities Director. His ministry has touched thousands of lives and his passion for activities ministry has brought the ministry to new heights since his arrival. It is with both sadness and excitement that we say goodbye and thank you to Baron for his years of service. Baron has taken a new position in Memphis, Tennessee as an adult and youth sports specialist. Baron will end his service to Lawndale on June 10. If you see Baron in the next few weeks, thank him for a job well done! We love you, sir, and will miss you!

Women's Ministry
Romans 15:7 Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

I love this passage! The verses before it are worth your trouble to look up! It is a prayer that believers would "live in such harmony with one another, in one accord with Jesus Christ, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (5-6). I think this passage reveals the beauty I have seen in the ladies of Lawndale.

I'm grateful for the excitement and participation in our Sunday evening time together. There is such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. If you have not had a chance to attend, please consider joining us! Women are reaffirming old friendships and new ones are being formed. This is for every generation and the discussion time allows for the intergenerational connections we all need. Love you ladies!!  - Donna

Women on Mission - Our Women on Mission Groups will not be meeting in June but will begin planning for the Joyner School event that’s coming in August. We’re also planning a joint missions kickoff in September before our individual groups meet in October, so we encourage you to find out more about us and get involved. Please contact our Director, Fran Brown, at (336) 292-8508 for information.
Worship & Music
We are happy to announce the restart of adult choir rehearsal beginning on June 2 in the CLC at 6:30pm. If you haven't sung with us before, but are interested in joining, we encourage you to come! Please email Annaliese amlawrence@lawndalebaptist.org with any questions.
General Announcements
Called Business Meeting—June 13. There will be a Called Business Meeting on Sunday, June 13 after each worship service for the purpose of voting on the call of Zack McCraw as Assistant Pastor of Student Ministries; and Kyle Earwood as Assistant Pastor of Children’s & Family Ministries. Bios on both candidates will be provided. (Families will also have the opportunity to meet with the candidates at a reception for them on June 6 from 3:45-4:45pm in the CLC.) Ballots will be passed out during the business meeting. Members may either cast their ballot at conclusion of the meeting or drop it off in the ballot box in the lobby after services. Voting will be available until noon that day.

Carnival Cruise with Elvis in 2022! - (April 30-May 7) on Carnival’s new ship, Mardi Gras. Excellent pricing will be available until June 15. If interested, come to the Cruise Meeting on June 8 at 7:00pm in the Chapel. Additional cruise details may be found at stephenfreeman.com. Arvil Pennington is coordinating this trip.

Share the Change—We have another wonderful opportunity to bless the special ministry of The Greensboro Pregnancy Network in encouraging them financially. Share the Change Baby Bottle Campaign will run through Father’s Day, June 20. Pick up a baby bottle from the crib in the lobby, fill it with silver change, and return on or before June 20. Checks may also be placed in the bottle (payable to The Pregnancy Network).

Extended Teaching—The Extended Teaching ministry to preschoolers (Babies-Kindergarten) takes place every Sunday during 10:30am worship hour. The 9:00am (first hour) is already staffed by faithful, permanent teachers who serve every Sunday. In ET, we are “extending” the Bible teaching from the first hour into the second hour. Many children are only present during the 10:30am hour and this may be their only Bible learning time on Sunday.

How Can I Help?
  • By volunteering once a month!
  • Volunteers serve on the same Sunday, in the same classroom, with the same volunteers. Over time, you will build a Christ-like relationship with the precious little ones and others in the church.
  • No lesson planning or preparation is required. Children rotate through Bible time, music & playground.
  • Contact Abby Miller if you are interested in volunteering at acmiller@lawndalebaptist.org.

It is Lawndale’s policy to conduct background checks on anyone who serves with children in any capacity.

Our online giving program can be found on our website: www.lawndalebaptist.org
