JUNE 2021
INCREASING ACCESS | RACIAL EQUITY | MEET OUR STAFF | VACCINE ADVOCACY
Dear Community,

On May 26th, the Sacramento Continuum of Care (CoC) Board welcomed more than 100 community members to its first annual meeting.

This future-focused forum brought together Sacramento's elected leadership, CoC Board members, homeless service providers, people with lived experience of homelessness, and members of our community. We heard voices from people with lived experience of homelessness, and expertise from providers who offer services to our community.

We discussed our system's efforts to end homelessness and charted a course for how our community can work together to make the greatest impact. In three focused sessions, we gathered input from our diverse stakeholders to improve our community's coordinated entry system, collaborate on addressing gaps in the system, and advance racial equity.

Together with our community, we identified bold aspirations, including building collective momentum toward achieving more coordination, creating broad access to services, accelerating racial equity, and building shared data. We will take this input to the CoC Board to translate these goals into meaningful changes.

It is through these convenings and information sharing sessions that our community can address the crisis of homelessness together. We encourage you to watch the recording of this meeting on our webpage.

Regards,

Resources and Meetings
Providing trauma-informed support in the COVID era for persons experiencing homelessness: On Monday, June 14th SSF facilitated a live discussion on providing trauma-informed support in the COVID era for persons experiencing homelessness.

Our history with the health, social, and legal systems as well as the state of our mental wellbeing can influence our desire to access care and services and impact our health decision-making. This is particularly true for people experiencing homelessness (PEH) and too often is to their detriment. The persisting health inequities in our cities also don’t quell the mistrust, anxiety, and fear among our homeless communities.

In this 1-hour discussion, we brought together local experts to discuss how we can help our homeless communities navigate the COVID vaccination decision-making process using a trauma-informed lens. We will also cover opportunities for our community to improve PEH’s access to health and social resources and how we can support individuals serving our vulnerable populations, and more!
