Greeting Everyone,
We hope you are all doing well. The Village of Freeport along with the Freeport Chamber and NMMA officially opened up the summer season on June 4th with a ribbon cutting on the Nautical Mile by Mayor Robert Kennedy. It was a beautiful day which is a good sign for continued good weather ahead. We had lots of vendors, rides, food and other intertainment for everyone.
It has been a busy month as we are planning many events and activities for the year.
August 7th is our Canoe Race which will be held down at Cow Meadow this year. It is always such a fun time. If you've never been to one, make sure this year you come on down! We love to see new faces and always welcome familiar ones.
Save the date on October 6th for our Golf Outing! This will be held at Middle Bay Country Club in Oceanside and dinner afterward at the Coral House.
We will keep you posted with more details and how to register for this event shortly.
Last but not least, our spectacular Fireworks, sponsored by the village, NMMA and the chamber, which is scheduled for July 5th!
On June 6th, our scholarship committee, spearheaded by Annmarie DiSalvo, attended a ceremony at the Freeport High school and awarded 2 students with a $500 scholarship. Next year we are planning a scholarship dinner to honor the graduates.
Legislature Steve Rhoads spoke at our last luncheon, addressing the state of the county. He talked about the condition of the water here and how we are improving it, as well as the rising inflation and the impact this is having on our businesses and families.
