Architecture

Francis Morrone's popular Architects of America course has been extended to include five more architects, all from the twentieth century. The series resumes weekly on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 1 pm, with separate registration required for each class. Students may now look forward to the following illustrated online lectures that will all be recorded and available to view on demand for one week:
  • Architects of America: Paul Philippe Cret, a Frenchman in Philadelphia (11287)
  • Architects of America: John Russell Pope, Washington, D.C., and Beyond (11288)
  • Architects of America: Ralph Adams Cram, Apostle of Modern Gothic (11289)
  • Architects of America: Ralph Walker, the Genius of Art Deco (11290)
  • Architects of America: Louis Isadore Kahn, Philadelphia Modernist (11291)

Once the Architects of America series ends, Morrone will lead two in-person walking tours of Manhattan's Fabled Squares. The first will cover the history and architecture of Union Square (11292) on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 (rain date Wednesday, August 10, 2022) and the second will be of Madison Square (11293) on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 (rain date Wednesday, August 17, 2022). Tour size is limited and will be filled on a first-come/first-served basis.
History and Culture

Lorella Brocklesby, SAS's crown jewel from across the pond, will introduce a new three-part English Gardens series at 10:30 am on Tuesdays, beginning July 12, 2022. Marvel at the stately landscapes characteristic of the sixteenth century Tudor (11294), eighteenth century Georgian (11295), and nineteenth century Victorian (11296) aristocratic grounds. Each class may be taken individually or register for English Gardens Series 90 to save $15 of the combined cost. Lectures will be recorded and available to students for one week.

Summer reading lists are out! The next two books in Harriet Sobol's popular BookTalk discussion class will be Comedy in a Minor Key (1947) by Hans Keilson (11297) on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, and Stoner (1965) by John Williams (11298) on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
