NECC News: June 2022
Hello NECC Community! We have a busy summer planned at the NECC this year. Summer is the time when instructors would often like to take vacation breaks (don’t we all!), and we have also scheduled an HVAC upgrade and new pool chemical delivery system. Summer camps will also share the facility during the day, and all of these plans and activities will affect the facility, pool, and fitness schedule. Check it out!
The Community Fund

This year, the NECC has already committed more than $20,000 from The Community Fund to support all our neighbors, but more than $40,000 of need remains unmet. We invite you to make a gift to support equitable access to health and wellness programs for all ages.
Upcoming Events

  • Summer Swim Registration 1: June 14th for members and June 16th for everyone.
  • Summer Swim Registration 2: July 5th for members and July 7th for everyone.
  • Summer camps start June 20th
  • Last day of After School Time is June 10th
June Fitness

The May fitness schedule will continue through Saturday, June 4. As we approach summer, we encourage you check the website for the most up-to-date fitness schedule, and to register for both in-person and virtual classes that you plan on attending. If your favorite class is on hiatus, you can find a huge variety of fitness offerings by accessing our on-demand library. .

Drop-In Basketball will shift from its regular time to accommodate NECC summer camps, and starting June 25th, the NECC facility will be closing at noon every Saturday. To keep up with the latest changes, visit the facility schedule page of our website. Just click the button on our homepage to see what's happening in the pool or find out if the gym is free.
New Ventures for Fitness Staff

A big thank you and best wishes to Jade Culbertson, who is transitioning out of her role as Fitness and Community Wellness Coordinator to pursue educational and professional opportunities focused on Public Health. We look forward to incorporating some of Jade’s public health programs into future NECC offering. Best wishes!

Another big thank you to Kristen Leadem, who is transitioning to a new full-time position as the Dissemination and Implementation Manager for OHSU’s Novel Interventions in Children’s Healthcare (NICH) Program. Kristen will continue to teach the popular SPRK and Barre classes online, so she will still be sharing her bright light with NECC participants.
Splash around in the NECC pool this summer
The Summer Swim School session is just around the corner! To make lessons easy to fit in the rest of your busy summer schedule, most of them will be Fast Track. Fast Track lessons are held M-F for 2-4 weeks, and allow swimmers to develop skills in a short period of time.

We know it can be hard to plan for later in the summer, so we will be holding two separate registrations for the session. The schedule will be up on our website soon, so keep an eye out.
Weekly Lessons and Fast Tracks 1 & 2 - June 14th for members and June 16th for everyone.
Fast Tracks 3 & 4 - July 5th for members and July 7th for everyone.
Open Swim is back! Join us every Friday from 6-7:45pm. No registration required.
Not a member? Not a problem!

Daily drop-in passes are available again. They are $10 for an adult and $5 for youth and are good for the whole day. You can use them to shoot hoops in our gym, swing kettlebells in the weight room, attend a fitness class, or splash around in open swim.

Because of limited capacity only members will be allowed to preregister for our lap swim or water workout classes, but drop-ins are welcome to take any open spots the day of.
Help us get ready for summer camps!

Partial Parking Lot Closure: On Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, Jul 5 the West end of the parking lot on 37th Ave will not be available for parking from 6-11am for Bike Camp. This is an important community program that focuses on safe riding practices for youth, and we appreciate your flexibility.

Do you have an old collection of Pokémon Cards? We are running a Pokémon card trading event during the summer and are seeking Pokémon card donations.
Thank you to everyone who donated recyclables! We received an overwhelming amount of support and are no longer accepting donations - our craft closet is literally overflowing!
