June 2022
Greetings!

Children experience higher rates of food insecurity during summer months. The absence of free and reduced school meals combined with rising costs for gas and groceries have left many families wondering how they will provide healthy meals.

With your support, River City Food Bank can help! Your compassion gives families, and anyone facing hunger, dependable access to nutritious food without barriers.

Joanna has three children, a six-month-old and twins in second grade. She first came to River City Food Bank when the twins were little, and she was between jobs. She said, “River City was here for us years ago when I was going through a rough spot. I never thought I would be here again, but I’m having a tough time keeping up right now and the food we get here helps so much.”

Thank you to the incredible donors, staff and volunteers who make our work possible. Because of you, children in our community will have access to healthy food throughout the year!
With Gratitude,
Amanda McCarthy

RCFB Serves with PRIDE
River City Food Bank is a place where everyone is welcome!
We recognize that food insecurity is disproportionately higher within the LGBTQ+ community and we strive to provide inclusive service without barriers to ensure that everyone has access to the healthy food they need to thrive.
Community Partner Spotlight
River City Food Bank is proud to partner with Kaiser Permanente to serve our community!

Recently, Kaiser awarded RCFB $25,000 to provide critical support for our CalFresh Outreach program. This investment will allow RCFB staff to assist households facing hunger in applying for and receiving CalFresh benefits to supplement their food budget.

“The pandemic has created real difficulties for many people trying to feed their families. Access to nutritious food is vital for a healthy mind, body and community,” said Michael Scates, Chief Operating Officer for Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. “Food insecurity is linked to a variety of adverse health outcomes which is why we partner with local food banks, like River City Food Bank, to help ensure families in the Sacramento area have the food they need to lead healthy lives.”

A huge thank you to Kaiser for making this work possible.
St. Michael's Episcopal Church:
Supporting our Arden Community
River City Food Bank was honored to receive a generous grant from St. Michael's Episcopal Church to provide healthy, culturally meaningful food to our guests at our emergency food distribution site in Arden-Arcade, The Center at St. Matthew’s.

At their Sunday worship service, we were grateful to have Sara Floor, Immediate Past Board President, accept the award on our behalf presented by The Very Reverend Mary Claugus, past RCFB Board President and hunger relief advocate.

Whether it is through volunteering, annual diaper drives or grant support, the clergy and congregation at St. Michael's Episcopal Church is making a difference in our community!

Meet Your Neighbor
Joseph is 85-years old, and his smile matches his amazing personality. He enjoys coming to River City Food Bank regularly to pick up healthy food to help supplement his income with the rising cost of living.
He started coming to the Midtown distribution site five years ago as he is on a fixed income. Joseph was thrilled when RCFB opened a second distribution site at The Center St. Matthew's where he also attends church on Sundays.

Joseph loves the fresh fruit he receives each week. He shared that it now takes $100 to fill up his gas tank, which makes it hard to put food on the table. The groceries he receives from the food bank ensure that he does not have to make impossible choices between paying bills and eating meals.

You make this possible!
