"Alan, my faithful husband of 61 years, and I have hunted all over the world together."
 
"My hunting career started on a bet. My husband was hunting in South Africa and I was an observer. His guide, who never wore long pants or regular shoes, would not agree to let me take a photo of him in a tux at an upcoming speaking engagement he had at SCI in Washington DC unless I shot an Impala. That kick-started my hunting career in 1981." (Editor's note: Since then Barbara has accumulated 375 species and is still hunting!)

"A few trophies that stand out for me are the Marco Polo Sheep, the Sulaiman Markhor, Royal Antelope, Aders Duiker, and Zebra Duiker. Also, Alan and I have a large wall of mountain animals that we call 'THE WALL OF PAIN.' "

As a result of her prolific hunting career, Barbara has won numerous prestigious awards including;
 
* The Diana Award: Women of SCI who have excelled in international hunting, conservation and education.  
 
* The Ullmann Award: Big game hunting in Europe.
 
* The Weatherby Award: Awarded to one hunter annually since 1956 for remarkable lifetime achievement in hunting and conservation.
 
* SCI's World Hunting and Conservation Award and International Hunting Award
 
* GSCO's Pantheon Award: Given to those few hunters who have a Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep; an Ovis World Slam Super 30 of the world's mountain sheep; a Capra World Slam Super 30 of the world's wild goats; and the Super Slam of 29 North American Big Game.

MOST MEMORABLE HUNTS

"From 9,000 feet to over 14,000 feet, we walked along single file paths that have been used for hundreds of years, with breathtaking views, including K2. At least 30 sherpas accompanied us, treating us like royalty. The hunt was like traveling back in time. Alan and I were both successful with wonderful Blue Sheep and Tahr."
 
Polar Bear
"We traveled the traditional way, by dog sled to our camp, which was a small fisherman's cabin. We (Alan, me, and our 3 guides) slept on the floor. The hunt took place over Thanksgiving, and as the only female in the group, I got the job of chef. And I got creative by pouring tomato soup over pork chops. The Eskimos said it was the best meal they ever had - can you imagine? Unfortunately, I didn't get the Polar Bear on that trip." (Editor's note: She got a good one on her next try.)

CONSERVATION, GOLF, and FAMILY
Barbara and Alan support conservation and philanthropic causes in local communities where they hunt including the Longuito School for girls and boys in Tanzania and the Murulle Foundation in Ethiopia. Barbara is a Director for the Sportsman's Alliance and the Weatherby Foundation. She is an avid golfer. And she is most proud of her 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way).
