June 2022 Updates
PRESIDENT'S NOTES
Summertime & living is….BUSY!

Just as the State of Delaware and the Delaware General Assembly, our fiscal year ends on June 30th. And like them, we have been operating non-stop all month.

World Trade Center Delaware hosted two of our signature events this month: Our Kickoff to the US-Africa Business Summit and our Annual EXIM training. And now, I write this from Select USA Investment Summit 2022 in Washington D. C. where
the Delaware Prosperity Partnership has invited us to share a booth representing the State of Delaware to companies from across the US and around the world.

The Kickoff was designed to encourage Delawareans to attend the Summit in Marrakech from July 19-22 in July and to prepare them to participate in our exhibition booth. Our Kickoff is unlike any other trade event in Delaware. We invited Ambassadors and trade officials from Embassies in Washington and Ministries overseas to present opportunities in their respective countries. Experts from the US government and the Corporate Council on Africa discussed the resources they offer to US companies to smooth the path to trade. In the afternoon, participants met by pre-arranged meetings with all of the speakers.

Companies that have exhibited with us in the past have found that the Summit is a very cost-effective way to reach buyers in markets across the continent. Over 1,000 attendees will look for markets, partners and investment opportunities in health, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and ICT.  Please contact me by email or phone if you would like to exhibit with us or have WTC Delaware represent your company.
Our Annual EXIM training focused on Meeting the New Challenges of International Trade: Reducing Financial Risk Associated with Conflict and Supply Chain Disruptions. Senator Carper discussed legislative responses to supply chain disruptions in a video presentation and experts from the Export-Import Bank of the US, for which WTC Delaware is the Regional Export Promotion Program Partner, Fulton Bank and Securitas Global Risk Solutions, discussed specific trade finance instruments and programs to support businesses and to reduce political, economic, location, and performance risks. EXIM’s Export Finance and Business Development Specialist Aerek Stephens also spoke about the bank’s programs for veteran, minority and women- owned businesses. He said that "EXIM’s export credit insurance eliminates risk of America’s small business exporters”. The new EXIM ‘Make More in America Initiative” will make available the agency’s existing medium- and long-term loans, loan guarantees, and insurance to Delaware’s export-oriented domestic manufacturing projects especially in sectors critical to national security. Financing priority will be for environmentally beneficial projects, small businesses, and transformational export area transactions, including semiconductors, biotech and biomedical products, renewable energy, and energy storage.
At Select USA, we are showcasing the advantages that Delaware offers to companies around the world. President Biden spoke via video and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo convened the event. Traffic at our booth has been almost non-stop, starting at 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. when the Exhibition Hall closes. We have had 3,700 visitors from every continent, industry sector, and company size are attending. If the rate of booth visitors keeps up, we will all run out of business cards before this afternoon. I probably needed to bring more copies of International Delaware™, our magazine. They are very popular and illustrate the range of capabilities in Delaware.

To become part of this year’s edition which will focus on Hospitality and Tourism, please contact [email protected] or call 302-656-1837.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is the official export credit agency of the United States. EXIM is an independent Executive Branch agency with a mission of supporting American jobs by facilitating the export of U.S. goods and services.

When private sector lenders are unable or unwilling to provide financing, EXIM fills in the gap for American businesses by equipping them with the financing tools necessary to compete for global sales. In doing so, the agency levels the playing field for U.S. goods and services going up against foreign competition in overseas markets, so that American companies can create more good-paying American jobs.

Because it is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States, EXIM assumes credit and country risks that the private sector is unable or unwilling to accept. The agency's charter requires that all transactions it authorizes demonstrate a reasonable assurance of repayment; EXIM consistently maintains a low default rate and closely monitors credit and other risks in its portfolio.
