TRUSTEE CORNER

Continuing our Commitment to Safety: Trustees Hire Additional Full-Time Firefighters
Brian Valletto, Anthony Marut and Hyle Squire will soon become Concord Township’s newest full-time firefighters. “These three gentlemen exemplify the commitment to safety and willingness to help those in need and the courage to perform the job’s duties,” commented Matt Sabo, Fire Chief. All three men have been employed by the department in a part-time capacity and will now join the department full-time.
At the recent Trustee Meeting, a vote was taken to approve these three men for full-time positions with the Concord Fire Department. “In our continued commitment to safety service, we are pleased to offer full-time employment to these excellent firefighters who bring a high level of education, training and experience to the department,” said Carl Dondorfer, Trustee. Amy Lucci, Trustee agreed, “These quality candidates will benefit the residents of Concord.”
Morgan McIntosh, Trustee added, “I credit Chief Sabo for bringing us these quality professionals and highly recommended candidates. We interviewed all three of these exceptional people and are pleased to offer them full-time positions to serve the people of Concord.” The firefighters will begin their new positions on July 3rd, 2022.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Richard and Ronald Terriaco

June 16 will mark the end of an era in Concord Township when Deputy Chief Ron Terriaco retires after 40 years with the fire department. The father/son team of Richard (retired Fire Chief) and Ronald Terriaco have provided a combined 59 years of service to Concord Township.

Ron joined Concord Fire in 1982. Over the years, Ron advanced to Full Time Firefighter in 1988 followed by promotions to Shift Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Fire Chief. As he moved upward in rank, Ron continually advocated for advanced training not only for himself and fellow Concord Township firefighters, but for the overall public safely community. He has worked as Concord Fire’s training officer and an instructor for Auburn Career Center, Blue Card Command, Ohio Fire Chiefs Association and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

In addition to promoting education, Ron is passionate about advocating for firefighters families who face the tragedy of losing their loved ones to a line of duty death. For many years, he has acted as a Family Escort during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend and in Ohio for the Ohio Fire Chiefs Line of Duty Death team, assisting fire departments and families with funeral planning and benefits.

We wish Deputy Chief Terriaco happiness and success in his post-retirement endeavors. Knowing his strong sense of family and community values and his belief in “service above self”, we have no doubt that Ron will continue to be an asset to the public safety community.

Best of luck Deputy Chief!

TOWNSHIP CEMETERY

June 2022.jpg

June 12, 2022 is Ohio Women Veterans Day. We thank all the brave woman who have served and are currently serving our country.

The first Women Veterans Day was held June 12, 2018, marking the 70th anniversary of the groundbreaking Women's Armed Services Integration Act, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. That law enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and the recently formed Air Force.

On December 13, 2019 Senate Bill 77 was introduced by Senators Sandra Williams, a U.S. Army veteran and Frank Hoagland, a retired Navy Seal, and signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine. There are currently 67,000 female Ohio Veterans with 1,100 from Lake County.

Concord Cemetery’s female Veterans:

  • Ruth Densmore, Navy (WAVES), WWII
  • Ruth Ekstrom, Army Nurse Corps., WWII
  • Genevieve (Gean) Short, U.S. Coast Guard, WWII
  • Marilyn Talbert, U.S. Air Force, Korean War

Visit our website or call the Cemetery Office at 440-354-7518 for any questions.
