Bringing valuable museum resources to low-income families
 
The California Museum is proud to announce its participation in Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The program allows those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits museum access for only $2 with a SNAP EBT card. Museums for All is part of the California Museum’s commitment to welcome all audiences.

We are also proud to participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America. Qualified members need only show a Geneva Convention common access card for entrance for themselves and up to five family members.

Limited space is still available for young adventurers to explore over 300 years of history, arts and culture in the California Time Traveler Camp. Ideal for kids ages 6 to 11, this week-long camp offers engaging learning experiences as participants travel back in time to some of the state’s significant eras. The fun includes crafting, storytelling, a dance and drumming workshop, a wagon ride and field trips to the Sacramento History Museum and Sacramento's Japantown.

National touring exhibition examines global plastic waste crisis and showcases innovators working to solve this urgent issue

Organized and traveled by the National Geographic Society, “Planet or Plastic?” tells the story behind plastic from its invention to its current mass consumption through 70 profound photographs, powerful infographics and videos. The California Museum’s presentation also spotlights Californians fighting plastic pollution through portraits of environmental heroes created from plastics washed up on California beaches.

The Museum is currently open Thursday-Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Open by appointment for school tours Monday-Wednesday.

Beginning June 20, our general admission hours will be Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Masks required for all visitors age 2+.
