Summer greetings! We enjoyed celebrating graduation last weekend. On that occasion artist Katherine Bradford was awarded an honorary degree. Our heartfelt congratulations to her and the outstanding Class of 2022. You can read more below about the students, including several seniors, who worked at the BCMA this past academic year. As we look ahead, please join us on Saturday, June 25 for the opening of At First Light: Two Centuries of Artists in Maine, an exhibition that brings together artworks made in Maine from the BCMA’s collection with a series of important loans. Bradford’s painting Fear of Dark (2020) will be part of that exhibition. In this issue please enjoy an interview with photographer Walter Smalling, whose photographs of the homes and studios of historic and contemporary Maine artists undergird At First Light and are now on view in their own dedicated exhibition.

See you at the Museum!
