Join us on Thursday, 8 June 2023 at 16:00 East Africa Time for this LabCoP Extended ECHO Session. The World Health Assembly (WHA) passed the resolution, ‘Strengthening diagnostics capacity’ on 26 May. The resolution was initiated by the Kingdom of Eswatini, and co-sponsored by all the AFRO region member states, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Germany, France and Canada, among others . This is the first resolution that addresses diagnostics and urges member states to take 15 steps to strengthen diagnostics, and calls on the Director General of the World Health Organization to take an additional 16 steps.

What comes next? Sue Horton and Ken Fleming, two of the three lead authors of the Lancet Commission on Diagnostics will discuss what they hope to see happen following the resolution. This includes an International Alliance on Diagnostics, the promotion of national diagnostics strategies, the development of national essential diagnostics lists, localisation of diagnostics production, and data collection on affordability of diagnostics, which can incentivise action.
