June 2023
Lower Providence Library News!

Hello Friends!

Summertime and the livin' is easy.
Summer at the library is fun and busy and after 3 years of limited summer reading, we are so excited to be back to FULL SUMMER READING starting June 12 here at Lower Providence Community Library. This year's summer reading theme is "All Together Now" and we have planned a summer designed to bring us together. This year we are planning a community art show that will be on display in our community. We welcome each family to design a puzzle piece, to hang in the community room for the duration of summer reading. Together we will create an art show and community puzzle representing Lower Providence Community Library and our patrons!

Ms. Sandy and Manni (Adult services) have been working hard to create summer programming to engage and welcome patrons to the library. Ms. Sandy has invited a number of performers on Monday evenings who will delight kids and parents alike (June's activities are listed below)! Manni will be upping her passive programming game this summer with new community puzzles, weekly Plinko games to help you pick your next read, and "This or That" to find out your summer favorites.

At the core of every summer is READING! Who doesn't love sitting outside in the sunshine with a good book? This year's summer reading tracking for kids and adults will be completely digital using our Beanstack App. If you are new to Beanstack, we will have a rolling kiosk in the library, where staff can help you set up your account and give you a brief tutorial.

We can't wait to see you all back at the library for Summer Reading this year!

In the March issue of GQ one of our favorite Phillies, Bryce Harper, was interviewed and indulged us with his favorite author, Elle Kennedy.
The article is linked here (Bryce Harper GQ Article).
Elle Kennedy is a Sports Romance Writer and a romance reader favorite, so of course I read the five-book series (Off-Campus) Bryce told GQ he reads before bed. Off-Campus follows the 4 stars of fictional Briar University's nationally ranked hockey team as they dominate the hockey rink and fall in love. The first 4 books each follow one of the four guys (who are all roommates) through their romantic exploits, and book 5 is a compilation of epilogue novellas. I thoroughly enjoyed all 5 books (each book did not receive lower than a 3.5-star rating) and fell in love with all 4 hockey players. They (books and hockey players) are fun, sexy, and sometimes silly. My favorite was book 2, The Mistake. We have all of the Off-Campus series and it's spin-off Briar U at the library and on Libby for check out!
These are perfect to read beside the pool or down the shore this summer!

Happy Reading and see you at the library!

Marija Skoog, Library Director

Our Puzzle Swap area has become a beloved part of the library!
When we established the puzzle swap a little over a year ago, we never expected it to be as popular as it has become. That said, we're ready to share some guidelines to make the Puzzle Swap an enjoyable experience for all!

Puzzle Swap Guidelines are:
  1. Puzzles and their box must be in good shape with no tears, stains, odors, missing pieces, or damage.
  2. Puzzles must include a box.
  3. Please practice the "golden rule" of puzzles. Please give puzzles in the condition you would like to receive them in.

The Puzzle Swap will gladly accept:
  • Jigsaw Puzzles for Adults and Children
  • Board and Floor Puzzles
  • 3-D puzzles
  • New or Unused Puzzle Books

Due to the lack of space, not all puzzles are acceptable.
We cannot accept:
  • Damaged puzzles, including:
  • Missing pieces
  • Missing or torn boxes
  • Discolored or damaged boxes or pieces
  • Puzzles of extreme age
