June 2023
Greetings!

The number of students experiencing food insecurity dramatically increases during summer months when school meals are unavailable. Families face difficult, if not impossible, choices between putting food on the table and meeting other basic needs, including housing.

Thanks to you, our neighbors can count on River City Food Bank to access healthy groceries and CalFresh assistance year-round! We stand by our philosophy that no one should be hungry, and we are here for our community when they need us most.

Yolanda has daughters in third, fifth and ninth grades. She proudly told me that the girls get good grades and have a lot of friends. Yolanda was grateful for the school breakfast, lunch and snacks but now struggles to keep up with meals during the summer. She said, “We work hard but finances are tight. I don’t know what I would do if we couldn’t come here to get groceries.”

Your gifts of time and support make this possible. Because of you, our neighbors can count on River City Food Bank for healthy, meaningful food this summer and beyond – thank you!
With gratitude,
Amanda McCarthy
Executive Director
Final School Pantry Distribution
River City Food Bank joined Greer Elementary at the Farm to Wellness Summer Fair to support the last food distribution of the school year. We are grateful to have the opportunity to partner and build a healthier community.

A heartfelt thank you to No Kid Hungry, the team at San Juan Unified School District and the amazing volunteers from Point West Rotary for ensuring that our students and their families had the healthy food they need to thrive.
Celebrating Juneteenth
River City Food Bank stands in solidarity with our neighbors as we commemorated Juneteenth. As we reflect upon the historic milestone of freedom for enslaved African Americans, we acknowledge the continued pursuit of equality and justice.

We recognize the resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions of the Black community. Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the progress we've made and the work that lies ahead in creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

Together, we can build a future where every individual is treated with dignity and respect.
Celebrating Pride
Happy Pride Month! River City Food Bank proudly celebrates and supports the LGBTQ+ community and believes in fostering a safe, inclusive environment for all.

Together, let's ensure that all our neighbors have access to healthy food as we celebrate love, diversity, and equality. Listen to RCFB guest, Eiam, HERE.

Meet Your Neighbors
Cece and Tony bid farewell to their home in Texas several months ago to embark on a journey to California.

Since their arrival, they have had trouble finding a stable place to live. They occasionally stay with friends but spend most nights sleeping in their car.

Recently, Cece got a job at Amazon. She is excited about employment but knows they still need to find stable, affordable housing. While looking at local resources, Cece and Tony found River City Food Bank and decided to give it a try. They were thrilled with their experience and appreciated the options for guests who do not have a kitchen.

Tony and Cece also learned that they could use their CalFresh (EBT) dollars to purchase healthy, fresh food at local farmers markets. They couldn't help but compare the freshness of the food they selected at River City Food Bank to the fruit and vegetables at the farmers market!

At RCFB, they found a sense of belonging and community. The staff and volunteers treated them with care and respect and created an environment where they feel valued.

Thank YOU for making this possible!
