Sacred bathing ceremony during our Narasimha festival in early May. |
Greetings & Namaste,
When newcomers to Tucson ask how we cool off during Arizona's searing summers, we tell them about our Monday getaways, while our restaurant is closed.
First, there are the canyons, Sabino and Madera. Sabino is closer, with more river water for swimming and wading, but Madera is higher and cooler, with great hiking trails accessible from the picnic areas.
When we need to chill fast, we head straight up Mount Lemmon, where the ski-lift ride gives us breathtaking views of the desert below, the forest provides sweet spots to picnic, and the General Store sells delicious homemade pies for dessert.
Finally, when the summer is super hot and super dry, we pile in our vans for the 90-minute journey to Lake Patagonia, where we can swim, boat, and picnic to our heart's content. Hurray Krishna!
If you'd like to chill with us some Monday this summer, please write me at the address below. Hare Krishna and stay cool!
Yours in service,
Sandamini Devi

Never too Young to Start your
Spiritual Life
Last month some of our devotees went to Tucson's International School for Peace to make presentations about Indian instruments and the art of chanting.
Chandini Devi performed a dance during a reading of Krishna's pastimes. To the especial delight of the pre-schoolers, the devotees invited everyone to chant and dance.

Pima Community College Engineering Students present Year-end Project for New Temple Complex
Last month landscape engineering students at Pima Community College presented their design ideas for our new temple site. The site will include an outdoor garden and dining area, which three teams worked on as a year-end project. Presented at Pima's newly constructed lab buildings were three beautiful and well-designed plans, which we will incorporate.

"In the company of Balarāma and the cowherd boys, Lord Kṛṣṇa is continually vibrating His flute as He herds all the animals of Vraja, even under the full heat of the summer sun. Seeing this, the cloud in the sky has expanded himself out of love. He is rising high and constructing out of his own body, with its multitude of flower-like droplets of water, an umbrella for the sake of his friend."
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 10.21.16)
| |
From Srila Prabhupada's Bhagavad Gita As It Is...
| |
"Kṛṣṇa, by His different energies, diffuses heat and light through the agency of electricity and the sun. During summer season it is Kṛṣṇa who checks rain from falling from the sky, and then during the rainy season He gives unceasing torrents of rain. The energy which sustains us by prolonging the duration of our life is Kṛṣṇa, and Kṛṣṇa meets us at the end as death."
(Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Chapter 9, verse 19, purport)
