Spiritual Principle: Willingness

I recently had to change out my dishwasher. That doesn’t seem like a big thing, but I put it off as long as I could. I used duct tape for months to keep the front panel on. Even after I needed extra rinses to get the dishes clean, I still took a couple of weeks to order a new dishwasher. Then I had anxiety about the new one coming. It would be different. Would it work as well? Would I have trouble loading it? Maybe it wouldn’t be as good as the old one.

I really didn’t have the anxiety long, because in our program I have learned to identify my feelings and figure out what to do. I realized I was afraid of the change and wanted to hold on to what I was comfortable with. Once I realized this, it was easy to move on. The old dishwasher wasn’t working and didn’t even look good because of the duct tape. Why would I want to keep it? Just because it was known to me? By doing Step Six, I learned that I sometimes want to keep my old way, even if it doesn’t work for a new healthy life, simply because I am comfortable with the old and it is known to me. Thank you so much for OA, where I am learning how to live in ways that help me move forward and be healthy.

Question: How many meetings do you go to each week?

Answer: 7

Question: How many meetings do you need?

Answer: 1

Question: So why do you go to 7?

Answer: I don't know which one.

All are welcome in OA. When we say or hear that only one piece of literature is the way to work the Steps, the way to carry the message, the way to find recovery, OA stops being accepting, inclusive—welcoming.

Read and share Embracing Our Differences, a timely reminder that OA is a Fellowship of unity and diversity, and recommit to embracing all who want to stop eating compulsively.

Now Ocean and Bay is on Facebook

If you're a member of Facebook, please consider dropping by our Facebook page and giving us a "like." The more likes we get, the more people will see us. That means more chances to help the still sick and suffering compulsive overeaters out there.

You can find us at: https://www.facebook.com/oceanandbay

Now Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and Southeastern Connecticut OA fits into your pocket

We have a new website! It takes a lot of time to do this; thank you to all involved for your service and look forward to sharing the new look farther down the road. The meetings are much easier to access from a cell phone as well.

I put my hand in yours, and together we can do what we could never do alone. No longer is there a sense of hopelessness, no longer must we each depend upon our own unsteady willpower. We are all together now, reaching out our hands for power and strength greater than ours, and as we join hands, we find love and understanding beyond our wildest dreams.
