NEOGEN CANADA TSU REBATE PROGRAM
IGS Genomically Enhanced EPD (Update)

Genomic information is a major contributor to the EPD on CSA animals. Now users of the CSA search site will be able to easily identify those animals with a high density DNA test (100K) included in the genetic evaluation. The information from these DNA tests is equivalent to: adding 25+ calving ease records, 4 daughter calving records, 22 birth weights, 25+ weaning weights, 25+ yearling weights, 15 stayability records, 6 carcass weights, 10 marbling, 8 rib-eye measurements, 11 backfat measures and 25+ docility scores into the overall EPD evaluation of an animal. Animals with genomic test information included in the published evaluation will be identified with the following logo.
If you have genomically tested an animal and the logo does not appear, there may be several reasons. These may include the test not being completed prior to initiation of the evaluation, edits or pedigree errors to the animal in question or the SNP data may not have been transferred. If you have questions on an individual animal, please contact the CSA and we can work together to ensure that the correct information is being included in genetic evaluation.
2023 CSA DNA/ULTRASOUND PROGRAM
Homo Polled, Homo Black by Pedigree

Homo (short for Homozygous) means that an animal contains 2 identical copies of a gene. In the CSA system we can DNA test animals for Homo Polled and Homo Black. Animals that are Homo Polled contain 2 copies of the polled gene and thus can only pass on Poll to their offspring. Animals that are Homo Black contain 2 copies of the black gene, and thus can only pass on Black to their offspring.
If a calf is born to two homo tested parents, then the calf must also be homozygous by default. In cases where both the sire and dam have been DNA tested homozygous for the trait in question and to save on testing costs, it is possible to parentage verify the calf and use the pedigree to confirm homozygosity for black or polled. If the calf is DNA confirmed to the tested homozygous parents it can be designated Homo by Pedigree.
