Providing Dental Care for Everyone - Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry

On May 6, I was pleased to attend the 2nd Annual Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry Dental Day where they provided free dental services for those in need. The event included snacks, drinks, face painting, games and a DJ for attendees to enjoy while they waited for services. With the help of the Medical Care for Children Partnership dental bus and sponsorships from Align Technologies, Neodent and Ourisman Automotive, the Guardian Dental Partners Team of 65 dental professionals provided free dental care to 178 patients. The hygiene team completed 95 oral hygiene therapies (cleanings), and the Dentists and Assistants performed 107 restorative and surgical services. Set up for the day began at 5 a.m. and the last of the volunteers left at 7:30 p.m. Some even volunteered for the entire 14.5 hours. "It was a great day of sharing and connecting with the community" said Hygiene Team Lead Jeremy Smith RDH B.S.

Originally named James D. Geren DDS, Family Dentistry, Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry (8101 Hinson Farm Rd. Suite 114) has been making a difference in our community for 40 years, specializing in General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry. Dr. James D. Geren, DDS opened the office in 1983 and changed the name to Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry 25 years ago. The team began donating dental services once a year to different community organizations in the early 2000s. In 2011 he partnered with Dr. Zeyad Mady, DDS and together they continued their humanitarian efforts both locally and abroadGiving back has always been one of their core values and their team members share this philosophy.

Until partnering with Guardian Dentistry Partners in September of 2021, their team was able to provide care to 20-30 patients during the community dental days. Now with the support of Guardian and their dental partnerships throughout the DMV they have been able to grow the event to accommodate more people. The next Guardian Dental Partners Community Dental Day will be held at Vienna Smiles (2553 Chain Bridge Rd.) on September 9, 2023. Thank you Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry and Guardian Dental Partners for working to provide necessary dental services to everyone in our community, leaving no one behind! Learn more about Mt. National Youth Traffic Safety Month & Bicycle Safety Month

This month the Fairfax County Police Department focused on National Youth Traffic Safety Month & Bicycle Safety Month education and initiatives with several effective social posts and stories. A great one being – while working a school crossing, one of our McLean officers noticed students riding bikes that could use some tune-ups. The officers teamed up with Trek to organize a pop-up bike clinic. It was a great success and a great story of all the incredible things our officers are doing out in the community to keep us safe.

Parking Reimagined Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment

Fairfax County is continuing its initiative on Parking Reimagined, a review and update of regulations for off-street parking and loading. While some changes to off-street parking and loading regulations have occurred over the years, overall rates and regulations have not been comprehensively reviewed since 1988. Parking Reimagined completed an in-depth evaluation of off-street parking and loading rates and regulations to modernize these requirements. A proposal that includes updated rates and regulations, a tiered parking framework and minimum bicycle rates is under consideration. Learn more.

Lights On, Lights Off, Energy Saved

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck has helped cut some energy usage at the Noman Cole Pollution Control Plant. One day last fall the Supervisor was tooling past the plant and noticed a lot of lights were on at the Ultraviolet Disinfection Facility. He mentioned it to Wastewater Management Director Michael McGrath and the plant’s electrical crew went to work. Motion detectors and timers were installed on the circuits feeding the lights and Energy Team members provided additional feedback, resulting in having the lights on only when the operators need them instead of staying on all night.
