World Languages in the Summer
Pick up a new language or improve your skills in one you already know this summer in the company of fellow SAS students.

Starting this week is a four-session French for Travelers (11951) pragmatic class geared for tourists led by Sylvie Corten. Students will become adept at speaking phrases useful for shopping, eating, and sightseeing.

American Sign Language (ASL) students have opportunities to advance to the next level this summer. Those who have taken an introductory ASL class with Gianna Hittmann or who have a basic understanding of common vocabulary and syntax may register for the next in the sequence, American Sign Language II (11973), meeting on Wednesday evenings starting June 28, 2023. Those completing the current ASL II class will move up to American Sign Language III (11972), meeting on Monday evenings, starting June 26, 2023. Novices will have an opportunity in the fall when the introductory class will be offered again.

Spanish at various levels is also in the schedule. Beginner Spanish (11950) will meet on Wednesday afternoons, starting June 28, 2023, with Shaun Johnson. He will also teach the next level up, Beginner Spanish II (11948), on Tuesday evenings, starting June 27, 2023.

Online, Michelle Haiek will lead Intermediate Spanish (11965) and Intermediate to Advanced Spanish (11966) beginning Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Before then, Johnson will offer Intermediate to Advanced Spanish (11949) in person, starting June 28, 2023.

In a more colloquial format, Johnson will lead Advanced Conversational Spanish (11967) online in the late afternoon, starting June 27, 2023 and Haiek will cover the next level up, Intermediate to Advanced Conversational Spanish (11947), in the mornings, starting Thursday, July 13, 2023.
