"Black Pioneers" Exhibit Celebration

Saturday, July 15, 2023, 10 am - 2 pm

Join us in celebrating "Black Pioneers: Legacy in the American West," a traveling pictorial quilt exhibit on view from June 10 - October 1, 2023.


Festivities include self-guided exhibit tours, a hands-on community quilting activity, presentations by featured exhibit artists, quilt appraisals, pop-up shops from regional Black artisans and more!

Steve Sasaki, an expert docent at the Museum, would love to share his knowledge with you! Join him in "Uprooted: An American Story" at the times above to hear about his family's experiences of incarceration during World War II. Steve offers a Q&A as you pass through, or a full guided exhibit tour on topics such as coming to America, life in the incarceration camps, and returning home after WWII.

A collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense, the program provides free admission to all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and up to five family members through Sun., Sept. 3.

California Time Traveler Camp

Session 1: June 26-June 30, 2023

Session 2: July 10-July 14, 2023


Ideal for young adventurers ages 6-11, the Museum’s week-long day camp offers participants engaging learning experiences as they travel back in time to some of the state’s significant eras. A combination of exhibit tours, excursions to nearby historical sites and hands-on activities from 9 am to 4 pm, daily itineraries begin on Monday over 150 years ago in pre-statehood California and end on Friday in the near future that California campers will create.
