In 1923 my mother was 11 years old and lived right across from the Train Depot on Main Street. The arrival of the train and President Harding was one of the most significant events in her 89 years. She would have loved to be here for our Railroad Centennial Celebration, but this time she would surely be inside the fence.
We are going to commemorate the centennial of the railroad’s arrival in June from Monday the 17th to Saturday the 24th. Plenty of free family-friendly events are planned each day of the week culminating on Saturday with the Party-in-the-Park where we will witness a re-enactment of the arrival of President Harding.
Some highlights of the week include free train rides for kids on the Centennial Express, historical marker dedications, a Sing Away Social, music, dancing, bike riding, activities in the park, free admission to Homestead State Park, a family paint night, and more, more, more.
