CancerCare's Stories of Help and Hope

Throughout the year, CancerCare presents the stories of people who have cancer, their caregivers and more.


Our latest story comes from Maria A., who recounts turning to CancerCare after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. She shares even more in the video Maria's Story.

CancerCare on the Financial Impacts of Cancer


Cancer can be a tremendous financial burden on those with cancer. These financial challenges are the subject of TIME Magazine's recent article, "How to Cope With the Financial Toll of Cancer," where CancerCare's Vilmarie Rodriguez was able to provide her expertise.


Delays to treatment, reduction in quality of life and impacts on employment are all financial tolls of cancer, said Rodriguez, who is a licensed clinical social worker as well as vice president of patient assistance and community engagement. Addressing financial toxicity and its troubling effects are a key part of CancerCare's mission.

CancerCare Celebrates Pride Month


Pride Month is a time to celebrate the visibility and progress of the LGBTQ+ communities. It is also a time to recognize the barriers these individuals often face to good healthcare, including differences in partnership benefits, higher risk of certain forms of cancer, a lack of family support and more.


As part of our efforts to be help these populations, we have publications such as Cancer and Gender Diversity support groups such as our LGBTQ+ Support Group – Women Caregivers and many other resources.

CancerCare's New Jersey Gala Raises Vital Funds

 

CancerCare's 36th Annual Festival of Hope Gala was held last month at the Park Savoy in Florham Park, NJ. The event raised important funds to support those impacted by cancer, their caregivers and families.


Accepting the 2024 Corporate Achievement Award on behalf of Sanofi was Elizabeth Franklin, PhD, MSW, Head, US Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, Oncology.

CancerCare's Online Support Groups


Connect with others in support groups for cancer patients, loved ones and people who have lost a loved one, led by oncology social workers. Our online support groups are offered free of charge. Registration is required, and posts are visible to members only. Some of the online support groups currently under way include:


Triple Negative Breast Cancer Caregivers

LGBTQ+ Women Caregivers 

LBGTQ+ Young Adult Patients

CancerCare's Matching Donations Program

 

Did you know that you can double or even triple the impact of your gift to CancerCare?


We invite you to take advantage of your company’s matching gift program where your employer may match donations made to eligible nonprofit organizations, in this case, CancerCare.

 

Here are the steps:

  1. Make a donation to CancerCare at cancercare.org/donate 
  2. Search Employer to see if your employer has a matching gift program
  3. This field will automatically populate during the donation check out process
  4. Submit a request, electronically or paper form, based on the company's requirements
  5. CancerCare will verify the donation 
  6. Once the donation is verified, the company will send the matching gift to CancerCare
  7. Once the matching gift is received, we will notify you by email


Leveraging the benefits your company may provide is an easy and effective way to drive impact for CancerCare.
