Dear Andrea,
Happy Summer! No more June gloom, and now we can celebrate summertime with this beautiful weather. Summer is my favorite time of year - longer days, sunshine, beach walks, dinner outside, and a chance to recharge with family and friends after a very busy year. It's also a time to begin to plan for the new school year ahead. Enjoy these "lazy" days of summer!
Warmly,

Student Spotlight: El Camino Students Perform at Carnegie Hall
Under the direction of Dr. Joanna Medawar Nachef,
Director of Choral and Orchestral Activities, the El Camino College symphony orchestra and choirs performed at Carnegie Hall on May 25th where they were received with a standing ovation.
Participants represented the ECC Chorale, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, Joanna Medawar Nachef Singers (25 ECC alumni), Sons of Thunder and the PCC Choir. The program featured Mozart’s “Coronation Mass”, Spanish Gospel music, African American Spirituals, a Korean folksong, and the world premiere of “A Memorial Bow” by the award-winning Lebanese composer George Tomb.
Thanks to the generosity of the El Camino College Foundation, over 40 scholarships helped students make the trip. 200 performers in total traveled to New York, where their dreams became a reality by performing on the prestigious Carnegie Hall stage. "Our students were certainly transformed and that is exactly why it is our mission to help them find their purpose, follow their passion and move forward with ECC’s Warrior Pride!", stated Dr. Nachef.
Please watch this fun video of Eric Spillman of KTLA 5 Morning News singing "New York, New York" with some of the chorale students and Dr. Nachef at LAX before their departure to the Big Apple.

Student Spotlight: El Camino Architecture Student, Lynn Fyffe, to Attend Harvard University's Graduate School of Design
Harvard University is one of the most highly competitive institutions for higher education in the United States. With a transfer acceptance rate of only 1-2%, transfer success of community college students to Harvard or the other Ivy Leagues, remain uncommon.
However, architecture student Lynn Fyffe is one of those successful transfers. After receiving encouragement and support from a couple of her architecture professors, Lynn was offered a place in the Master of Architecture (MArch III) program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, better known at the GSD, for Fall 2024. The GSD is well respected amongst architecture academia and is considered the pinnacle of programs by the profession.

Department Spotlight: El Camino's Nursing Program Receives Prestigious ACEN Accreditation
El Camino College recently received formal notification from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), that they granted “Initial Accreditation” to El Camino’s existing associate nursing program. This accreditation came after a successful on-campus evaluative visit by ACEN representatives in November 2023.
An ACEN accreditation demonstrates that a college’s nursing program has “clear and appropriate educational objectives and is working to achieve these objectives” and supports that our students are prepared to enter the workforce, deliver excellent patient care, and contribute to positive health outcomes in the community.

Community Supporter Spotlight: Kroger
We are proud of our strong partners and this includes our partnership with Kroger. The Kroger/Ralphs/Food 4 Less family of companies is an instrumental supporter of our Warrior Pantry and Basic Needs Center, helping our most vulnerable food insecure students. They also support the Foundation and Athletics through their Community Rewards program. (To enroll, click on the Community Rewards link and designate NPO AS558 to start earning money for ECC whenever you use your Ralphs or Food 4 Less rewards card).
Additionally, we'd like to share a video that was filmed in the Warrior Pantry that was presented to hundreds of guests during Kroger's recent corporate meeting and headquarters tour in Compton, CA. The event marked a significant milestone in celebrating over a decade of their Waste-to-Energy production system. This innovative recovery system transforms 120 tons of inedible organic waste, unfit for donation or sale, from stores across California into clean energy. This energy powers their Compton distribution site, underscoring their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility as part of their Zero Hunger| Zero Waste initiative.
